Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has provided insight into why his team emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Chelsea in their Premier League clash on Saturday at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese coach saw his side secure the crucial victory after Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro scored for the Red Devils, while Trevoh Chalobah managed to grab a late consolation for Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea.
In his post-match reaction, Amorim highlighted that Manchester United approached the encounter with intensity and determination right from kickoff. He explained that the players displayed strong aggression, which made it difficult for Chelsea to settle into the game.
Amorim also pointed out the significance of Chelsea’s goalkeeper Robert Sanchez being sent off with a red card, a moment that tilted the contest in Manchester United’s favor. According to him, the dismissal allowed his team to dictate the tempo, although they were already controlling the match before the incident.
“Every victory at this point is vital, especially against a big opponent like Chelsea,” Amorim told BBC Sport.
“We started the game strongly and aggressively. The red card helped us dominate further, but we were already well set in the game.”
The win lifted Manchester United to 10th place in the Premier League standings, giving Amorim’s men renewed confidence as they push forward in the season.
For Chelsea, the defeat marks another setback as Enzo Maresca’s side continues to search for consistency in the English top flight.
