Former United States international and Premier League veteran goalkeeper, Tim Howard, has identified Chelsea Football Club as a potential wildcard in the upcoming 2025/2026 Premier League title race.
Despite a turbulent start last season, Chelsea ended the campaign on a high, securing a Champions League spot and clinching the UEFA Europa Conference League title. Their momentum didn’t stop there—Enzo Maresca’s side further impressed fans and critics alike by defeating Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the Club World Cup final, making a strong case for their resurgence as a dominant force in European football.
“Chelsea is the wildcard,” Howard said confidently.
“They’ve already secured a European trophy and the Club World Cup. When I look at how fast this team is improving, I’m honestly surprised—everything’s coming together quicker than I expected.”
The Blues are set to kick off their 2025/2026 Premier League campaign with a home fixture against Crystal Palace on August 17, a match that could set the tone for their ambitions this season.
