Introduction
The Enugu State Police Command has successfully cracked down on a notorious criminal syndicate engaged in armed robbery and financial fraud. This major operation involved a dismissed soldier and seven other suspects, marking a significant achievement in the fight against crime in the region.
Coordinated Operation and Arrests
The operation, carried out by the Emene Division, Crack and Octopus Tactical Squads, and the Neighbourhood Watch Group, was pivotal in dismantling this interstate criminal network. According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the suspects were arrested during a well-coordinated intervention that also led to the recovery of numerous stolen items and weapons.

- Sadik Ahmed (28, dismissed soldier)
- Abbas Usman (33)
- Mubarak Garba (24)
- Abubakar Haruna (23)
- Abubakar Sani (32)
- Obiri Chukwuebuka (22)
- Bright Omeniru (22)
Items Recovered
The police confiscated a range of items during the operation, including:
- Two locally made pistols (one with a live cartridge and another with an expended cartridge)
- ₦300,450 in cash
- 10 laptops
- 10 mobile phones
- Land documents
- Jewellery, watches, and other accessories
- MP3 player, headphones, and four power banks
- Bags, footwear, and two SIM cards
How the Arrests Happened
The operation began on November 12, 2024, at 3:30 a.m., following a distress call about an armed robbery at an estate in Emene.
- Initial Arrest:
- Ismaila Isah was apprehended with a locally made pistol, ₦300,450 in cash, and stolen items.
- His confession led to the arrest of other syndicate members in New Garriki, Awkunanaw, Enugu.
- Further Arrests in Owerri:
- The Octopus Tactical Squad captured Obiri Chukwuebuka and Bright Omeniru in Owerri, Imo State.
- Both admitted to using stolen phones to withdraw funds from victims’ accounts and revealed details about armed robberies in Enugu.
Role of the Dismissed Soldier
Sadik Ahmed, a dismissed soldier, confessed to exploiting his military background to bypass police checkpoints while trafficking stolen goods.
Legal Proceedings
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations conclude. They will face charges in court to ensure justice is served.
