The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), spearheaded by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, has officially terminated 226 inefficient contracts valued at a total of $1.03 billion.
This update was shared through an official statement on DOGE’s verified X platform account on Saturday. According to the agency, the canceled agreements include a $5.4 million Internal Revenue Service (IRS) consulting deal, which focused on investigating emerging operational issues within the IRS.
The federal department reported that these terminations have led to impressive savings of $555 million for the nation.
“Within the past 48 hours, agencies terminated 226 wasteful contracts totaling a ceiling value of $1.03 billion and achieved $555 million in savings,” DOGE announced on X. “This includes ending a $5.4 million IRS consulting agreement and a $20,000 National Science Foundation (NSF) management development contract that provided training materials aimed at understanding bias and unlocking potential.”
This development follows shortly after DOGE previously terminated 269 inefficient contracts valued at $845 million.
The Department of Government Efficiency was established under former President Donald Trump’s administration, with a primary mandate to eliminate unnecessary spending across U.S. federal agencies. Trump has recently expressed his satisfaction with DOGE’s performance, suggesting that the department’s role could become a permanent fixture in American governance.
