Elon Musk to Significantly Reduce His Involvement with Government Efficiency Taskforce DOGE by May

1 minute, 48 seconds Read

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has announced that he will begin scaling back his involvement with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), beginning in May 2025. The announcement comes amid a turbulent quarter for Tesla, which experienced a significant drop in revenue and net income, along with growing scrutiny over Musk’s political entanglements.

During a recent earnings call with investors, Musk explained that much of the critical work to reorganize the federal government’s financial operations has been successfully completed.

“Starting probably next month, May, my time allocation to DOGE will drop significantly,” Musk said.

Despite this shift, Musk stated he will still dedicate one to two days per week to DOGE, continuing essential duties as long as it aligns with the President’s directives and the task remains impactful.

Musk is expected to formally exit his role at DOGE by May 30, in adherence to the 130-day limit for special government employees.

Tesla’s Financial Struggles Prompt Refocus

Tesla’s financial performance has contributed to Musk’s recalibration of priorities. The electric vehicle giant posted a 9% decline in year-over-year revenue, pulling in $19.3 billion, well below Wall Street’s projection of $21.45 billion.

Additionally, earnings per share dropped to 27 cents, a steep fall from the anticipated 43 cents. Net profit plummeted 71% to $409 million, compared to $1.39 billion in the same quarter the previous year. Tesla also experienced a 13% decline in vehicle deliveries, recording just 336,681 vehicles, marking its weakest quarter since 2022. Elon Musk’s Policies and Government Role

While acknowledging recent challenges, Musk remains confident in Tesla’s direction:

“The future for Tesla is better than ever,” he affirmed.

Internal and External Reactions

Musk’s departure from DOGE has stirred both political and business communities. Many believe his time is better spent steering Tesla back to financial health. Analysts at Bloomberg have linked his reduced government involvement to increasing pressure from shareholders.
