The Edo State Police Command has taken into custody a driver employed by a Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, in connection with an alleged sexual assault case involving the 15-year-old daughter of the adviser.
According to LMSINT MEDIA, the arrest was verified by the State Command’s Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, during a briefing with journalists on Thursday in Benin City.
The accused, Mohammed Ihuenuma, aged 50, was apprehended following a formal complaint, and the investigation into the incident is currently underway. Yamu emphasized that the suspect will be formally charged upon the completion of the investigation.
He urged members of the public to promptly report incidents of rape, defilement, or other indecent acts to law enforcement authorities to ensure swift action and justice.
Yamu reiterated the stance of the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), stating that the Commissioner has a zero-tolerance policy for any form of GBV.
Information gathered by LMSINT MEDIA reveals that the arrest stemmed from a report filed by the father of the victim, who acted after being informed by the girl’s mother.
The alleged perpetrator, who routinely visited the family’s residence for errands, reportedly used those opportunities to behave inappropriately towards the girl. Sources disclosed that the suspect had repeatedly touched the teen in an indecent manner in what appeared to be attempts to entice her.
Eventually, the girl confided in her mother, who brought the matter to the attention of her husband. He subsequently filed a report with the police, leading to the arrest of the driver.
