Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has extended an olive branch to his political opponent, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urging collaboration for the advancement of the state.
This appeal came after the Edo State Governorship Election Tribunal upheld Okpebholo’s victory, affirming his legitimacy as the duly elected governor.
Tribunal Ruling on Edo Gubernatorial Election
The tribunal, led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, dismissed the PDP’s petition contesting the September 21, 2024, election results. The ruling emphasized that the petitioners failed to present credible witnesses to substantiate their claims of electoral malpractice and non-compliance with the Electoral Act.
Governor Okpebholo Calls for Unity
In his reaction, Governor Okpebholo, through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, expressed gratitude to the people of Edo State for their steadfast support.
“This victory is not mine alone but a collective success for all citizens of Edo State. It reaffirms our commitment to transparent leadership and inclusive governance. Our administration remains steadfast in delivering on its promises and will not be swayed by unnecessary distractions,” he stated.
The governor emphasized that political differences should be set aside to foster economic growth, infrastructural development, and social progress in Edo State.

Governor Okpebholo reassured residents that his administration is dedicated to creating opportunities for all, improving governance, and enhancing public services. He called on both supporters and the opposition to unite for the common good.
