A Historic Coronation

Chief Ezekiel Nwifuru Nwankpu, father of Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, has been crowned the traditional ruler of Oferekpe Agbaja Autonomous Community in Izzi Local Government Area, Ebonyi State. Known for his large family and farming success, the newly crowned Ezeogo Nwankpu oversees 17 villages in his domain.

Governor Nwifuru personally presented the certificate and staff of office to his father during the ceremony, highlighting that the coronation adhered to Ebonyi State’s laws on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.

A Family Legacy: 30 Wives, 108 Children

Chief Nwankpu’s unique family history is remarkable. Married to 30 wives, 17 remain with him today after those unable to bear children departed. From these 17 wives, he has fathered 108 children, including Governor Francis Nwifuru, who was born to his fourth wife.

Out of these children, 25 are graduates, a testament to the family’s dedication to education, achieved largely through the sacrifices of their mothers.

Why He Married 30 Wives

Governor Nwifuru shed light on his father’s decision to marry many wives, describing it as a response to maltreatment and intimidation by relatives and neighbors. According to the governor, Chief Nwankpu’s prosperity as a farmer attracted jealousy, leading to isolation. His marriages provided companionship and support for his ambitious farming endeavors.

The governor praised his father’s loving and hospitable nature, highlighting his commitment to caring for his wives and children.

A Remarkable Ceremony

The coronation ceremony was held at the Oferekpe Agbaja Primary School II, a land that was once a source of family strife. Governor Nwifuru recounted how the land had been forcefully taken from his family, only to later become the venue for his father’s royal celebration.

Dignitaries present included former Ebonyi governors, Dr. Sam Egwu, Chief Martin Elechi, and Senator David Umahi, alongside state senators, House of Representatives members, and local government officials.

Governor’s Advice to the New King

During the ceremony, Governor Nwifuru urged his father to rule with justice and fairness. He called on him to foster unity and peace in the community, emphasizing the importance of humility and divine guidance in leadership.

This inspiring tale of resilience and achievement showcases the unique story of Chief Ezekiel Nwifuru Nwankpu and his legacy in Ebonyi State.
