Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has openly criticized the performance of three commissioners within his administration, signaling potential dismissals due to underperformance. During the inauguration of eight new duplexes at the Commissioners’ Quarters in Asaba, the governor emphasized that lackluster performance would not be tolerated. He highlighted that initiative, visibility, and tangible results are the benchmarks for retaining positions within his cabinet.
Governor Oborevwori recounted informing one commissioner of their inadequate performance, stating, “As a commissioner, we don’t see you. You talk, carry your memo, and look for the Governor, because the Governor will not come looking for you.” He stressed that proactive engagement and energy are essential for effective governance.
The governor further clarified that while there are rumors about dissolving the State Executive Council, there is no such plan. However, he reiterated that commissioners who fail to meet performance expectations would be relieved of their duties. He underscored the importance of accountability, stating that any issues within a ministry reflect directly on the commissioner in charge.
