In a decisive operation, the Delta State Police Command successfully neutralized five armed kidnappers who had been terrorizing communities across Delta State.

The affected areas include Ubuluku, Issele-Uku, Issele-Azagba, and parts of the Asaba metropolitan region.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, officers from the CP Special Assignment Team (SAT), acting on credible intelligence about the activities of a notorious kidnapping gang led by Bello Abubakar, launched a coordinated operation on April 21, 2025.

Edafe explained that officers stormed one of the gang’s hideouts deep within the Agu-Amawbia forest in neighboring Anambra State. During the operation, security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle and 132 rounds of live ammunition.

Subsequent intelligence efforts led the police team to another forest location between Issele-Azagba and Utulu, where Bello Abubakar and his gang had positioned themselves for an ambush.

During a fierce exchange of gunfire, the kidnappers attempted to overpower the officers, but were met with superior tactical response. As a result, the criminals dispersed into the forest, many sustaining serious bullet wounds.

SP Edafe confirmed that five gang members, including their leader Bello Abubakar, who suffered critical injuries, were later apprehended and rushed to a nearby hospital where they were confirmed dead.

The police team also recovered two additional AK-47 rifles and 18 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition from the crime scene.

He reassured the public that a manhunt has been launched to capture the remaining fleeing suspects.
The Delta State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.
