Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, widely recognized by his stage name Davido, has revealed that the Nigerian music scene experienced an unusual silence during his absence from social media in late 2022.
The award-winning artist shared that his decision to go offline in November 2022—a move made following the heartbreaking loss of his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke—had a notable impact on the music industry. According to Davido, the atmosphere within the Nigerian music space shifted significantly during that period.
Reflecting on the three-month hiatus, Davido stated that both supporters and critics were pleading for his return to social media platforms.
During a recent conversation with Ebro Darden on Apple Music, the singer detailed the overwhelming reactions he observed during his offline period.
He explained, “I was well aware of the affection people had for me. When I stopped being active on social media, the entire Nigerian music industry came to a standstill. I kept seeing posts that read, ‘We do love him’, ‘It’s so quiet out here’, ‘Davido come back.’ Even those who usually criticize me were saying, ‘Please come back, we need to bash you.’”
LMSINT MEDIA previously reported that Davido went on a social media break after the tragic passing of his son, Ifeanyi, who drowned in a swimming pool at the singer’s residence in Lagos.
He made his comeback to social media in March 2023, announcing his fourth studio project titled ‘Timeless’, which was met with widespread excitement from fans.
