Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Davido has surprised fans by revealing that he has never met American rapper Nicki Minaj in person, despite working with her on multiple tracks.
During an interview on the Bootleg Kev podcast, the award-winning artist shared insights into their collaborations, emphasizing how their connection developed virtually.
How Davido and Nicki Minaj Started Collaborating
Speaking about their first interaction, Davido explained that their connection began via direct message (DM) on social media.
“The crazy thing is, I have never met her in person. It’s wild. We talk on the phone all the time. Our first conversation happened through DM,” Davido stated.
The singer recalled that he initially noticed Nicki Minaj following him on social media. Excited, he messaged her, and to his surprise, she responded the next morning. This led to their first collaboration on his 2020 hit song “Holy Ground.”
“I told her I had a song, and she was interested. I think it was 2019 or 2020. I sent her the track, and within two days, she sent back her verse,” Davido added.
Why Davido and Nicki Minaj Never Met in Person
Despite planning to meet for a video shoot in Los Angeles, circumstances prevented it from happening. At the time, Nicki Minaj was expecting her child, which made scheduling difficult. However, their relationship remained strong.
The duo later worked together again when Nicki reached out to Davido for a song on her anniversary album, Pink Friday 2. The singer praised her for being incredibly supportive and staying connected over the years.
