Davido Paternity Dispute: Mother Seeks US State Department Oversight for Independent DNA Test

The mother of a teenage girl who claims to be the daughter of Nigerian music star David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has reopened the long-standing paternity dispute, challenging earlier DNA test outcomes and alleging procedural irregularities in previous examinations.

In a public statement shared via her daughter’s Instagram account on Thursday, the woman, who identified herself as Ayo Labinjoh, rejected earlier assertions that the issue had been conclusively resolved. She maintained that the DNA processes conducted in the past were flawed and lacked transparency, stressing that her daughter’s interest lies solely in understanding her biological identity.

Labinjoh clarified that the renewed attention surrounding the matter was not initiated by her, but rather stemmed from her daughter’s personal quest for clarity. She stated that the prolonged public exposure has taken a serious emotional toll on the teenager, who has reportedly suffered repeated bullying and psychological strain over the years.

According to her account, the teenager, identified as Anu Adeleke, experienced several fainting episodes while at school and has undergone psychotherapy as a result of the emotional pressure linked to the unresolved controversy. Labinjoh emphasized that she has consistently prioritized her daughter’s mental and emotional wellbeing throughout the ordeal.

She further explained that the request for a DNA test was never motivated by financial expectations or a desire for public recognition. Instead, she described it as a deeply personal effort by the teenager to gain certainty about her parentage and personal identity.

The statement accompanied a screen recording which Labinjoh said captured a private exchange between Anu and Davido. In the recorded messages, the singer reportedly dismissed the paternity claim, asserting that multiple DNA tests had already been carried out.

During the conversation, Anu allegedly requested access to the results of the five DNA tests Davido claimed had been conducted. In response, the singer reportedly stated that he would make the results public through online platforms and print media, while also warning of possible legal action against the girl’s mother.

Labinjoh alleged that the tone and wording used by the singer during the exchange were hostile and constituted bullying, which she said further harmed her daughter emotionally. She also accused the public narrative surrounding the case of unfairly portraying the teenager in a negative light.

Raising fresh concerns, Labinjoh claimed that earlier DNA testing procedures were mishandled. She alleged that a blood sample collected from Anu in 2014 was discarded without analysis, and that the result later presented to them was inaccurate. She further accused certain individuals involved in the process of misrepresenting both their identities and the test outcomes.

In light of these claims, the mother stated that she now intends to pursue a new DNA test under independent supervision. She suggested that international authorities could be involved in overseeing the process, referencing Davido’s American citizenship as a basis for seeking external oversight.

According to Labinjoh, the involvement of neutral international bodies would help ensure transparency, fairness, and credibility in any future testing, reducing the possibility of interference or procedural misconduct.

The paternity dispute has remained unresolved for several years. In January 2025, Davido’s former legal representative, Prince Bobo Ajudua, publicly commented on the issue. In an Instagram response at the time, he stated that DNA tests had been conducted at two reputable laboratories, including one selected by the girl’s family, and that the results confirmed Davido was not the biological father. He described the continuation of the claims as unjust to both the Adeleke family and the child involved.

Davido later reaffirmed his position on X (formerly Twitter) on January 15, 2026, stating that five separate DNA tests had been carried out across different facilities, all of which reportedly returned negative results.
