Dangote Cement Responds to Reports Linking Its Truck to Fatal Accident in Benue State

Dangote Group, the parent company of Dangote Cement Plc, has refuted allegations that one of its branded trucks was involved in a tragic road accident that occurred along the Wannune-Gboko highway in Tarka Local Government Area, Benue State, where several lives were reportedly lost.

The company, through its official spokesperson, Mr. Anthony Chiejina, addressed the issue in an exclusive interview with LMSINT MEDIA on Monday, stating categorically that no vehicle owned by Dangote Group was connected to the unfortunate incident.

Earlier reports from eyewitnesses and some local media platforms had circulated the news that a truck allegedly laden with Dangote-branded cement collided with a Toyota Sienna minivan on Sunday evening, leading to multiple fatalities and sparking public concern.

However, while responding to these viral claims, Chiejina clarified that the mere fact that a truck is loaded with Dangote cement does not confirm it belongs to Dangote Group. He noted that most of the company’s products are distributed through third-party agents, who operate independently under authorized distribution agreements.

“It is important for the public to understand that not all trucks carrying Dangote cement are owned by Dangote Cement Plc. Many of these vehicles are operated by our numerous distributors across Nigeria,” Chiejina explained.

“Following the reports, we conducted a comprehensive check of our logistics records and confirmed that none of our trucks were involved in any road traffic incident in Benue State at the reported time,” he told LMSINT MEDIA.

As at the time this report was filed, an official press release had not yet been issued by the company. However, insiders suggest that a formal communication may follow shortly to set the records straight amid public concern.

The incident, which occurred along the frequently busy Wannune-Gboko Road, has drawn national attention, especially because it adds to a series of previous road mishaps involving trucks transporting cement products branded under Dangote Cement. The company has in the past faced similar accusations, prompting a broader conversation about road safety and the responsibility of corporate logistics partners.

It is worth noting that this situation underscores the challenges of brand misassociation, where independent transporters who carry branded goods are often mistaken as representatives or employees of the brand itself.
