Popular Nigerian media personality and social media influencer Daddy Freeze has openly admitted to maintaining a friendship with convicted fraudster Ramon Abbas, widely known as Hushpuppi.

Hushpuppi, a former Dubai-based socialite, was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in 2020 for his involvement in extensive cyber fraud and was later convicted in the United States.

Before his arrest, Daddy Freeze had sparked controversy in 2019 when he uploaded a video tour of Hushpuppi’s luxurious Palazzo Versace residence in Dubai on his YouTube channel. The video, which showcased Hushpuppi’s lavish lifestyle, led to backlash from netizens, who accused Freeze of endorsing fraudulent wealth.

Daddy Freeze Defends His Association with Hushpuppi

In previous responses to criticism, Daddy Freeze insisted that he was unaware of Hushpuppi’s fraudulent activities and had only perceived him as an influential personality rather than a criminal. However, in a recent video shared by popular blogger Tunde Ednut, Daddy Freeze made a more candid confession about his relationship with the embattled figure.

According to him, despite suspecting that Hushpuppi’s wealth might not have been legitimate, he remained friends with him because of the support he received during a difficult period in his life.

“Hushpuppi has never given me money, not even a single dollar. But he gave me friendship when everyone turned their backs on me.”

Daddy Freeze recalled that when he first met Hushpuppi, he was in Dubai alongside other influencers, many of whom distanced themselves from him due to his controversial #FreeTheSheeple movement, which criticized religious practices. Additionally, he shared that even the church he had attended for over a decade rejected him, leaving him isolated.

“Everybody rejected me. Then, Hushpuppi sent me a message asking where I was and invited me over.”

He further explained that they hung out, took pictures, and had conversations, emphasizing that Hushpuppi treated him as a friend when he had no one else.

Public Reaction and Moral Dilemma

Daddy Freeze acknowledged that he had his suspicions about Hushpuppi’s source of wealth but maintained that he could not turn his back on someone who stood by him. He also referenced Nigerian music star Davido’s lyrics, which emphasize loyalty:

“Dey for who dey for you.”

Despite his confession, many social media users remain divided on whether Daddy Freeze’s association with Hushpuppi was genuine friendship or ignorance of fraudulent wealth.
