Crystal Palace head coach, Oliver Glasner, praised his team’s unity and resilience after their stunning 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday.
The breakthrough came courtesy of Eberechi Eze, who found the back of the net with a composed finish at Wembley Stadium. This decisive goal not only secured the win but also marked Crystal Palace’s first-ever major trophy in the club’s long-standing history.
The goal stemmed from a swift counter-attack, with Eze calmly slotting the ball beyond Stefan Ortega, giving Palace the crucial edge.
Despite the attacking pressure from City, goalkeeper Dean Henderson delivered a standout performance, pulling off several key saves that kept Palace in the lead.
Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Glasner expressed disbelief and pride in his squad’s performance:
“I’m still in shock. We had to defend intensely. What stood out was the incredible spirit and cohesion from the team.”
He added, “Our game plan was built on patience. We studied their structure and realized that allowing them space in the pockets would be dangerous. City’s four-man attacking setup is difficult to handle, but we exploited transitions where we could outnumber them. Most wingers aren’t comfortable tracking back defensively. That transition phase led to our beautiful goal.”
