Crossover Night Alert: Nasarawa Police Prohibit Tyre Burning, Warn of Legal Action

The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, has officially announced a complete prohibition on the burning of used tyres during the crossover night celebrations for the New Year across the state.

This directive was highlighted in a statement released on Tuesday in Lafia by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, emphasizing the need for strict compliance.

According to the statement, Commissioner Mohammed instructed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to rigorously enforce the ban across their jurisdictions. He clearly warned that anyone found violating this directive would face arrest and prosecution under applicable laws.

The police chief stressed that this measure is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, it aims to safeguard critical government and private properties from potential damage or defacement. Secondly, it seeks to mitigate environmental pollution, which can result from the toxic fumes released during tyre burning. Finally, the ban is intended to maintain smooth traffic flow and ensure the safety of residents during festive celebrations.

In addition to law enforcement measures, Commissioner Mohammed called on vulcanisers and tyre sellers across the state to properly dispose of used tyres or remove them at the close of business each day. This precaution is designed to prevent unauthorised access to tyres that could be misused by members of the public.

Furthermore, the police commissioner urged parents and guardians to educate their children about the dangers of tyre burning and other illegal activities, stressing that responsible behavior during New Year celebrations is vital for community safety.
