A 52-year-old man, Ademilua Oni, has been remanded in Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre by the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ekiti State over the alleged murder of his mother. The court hearing took place yesterday, with the defendant facing a charge of murder.

According to Inspector Elijah Adejare, the prosecutor, the incident occurred on December 15 in Iropora-Ekiti, located in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State. The defendant allegedly killed his 92-year-old mother, Comfort Oni, during a confrontation.

Reports state that the mother confronted the defendant while he was engaged in an act of theft. The altercation escalated, and the defendant allegedly pushed her. She reportedly fell, which led to her untimely death.

This alleged act violates Section 234 of the Ekiti State Criminal Law, 2021. The prosecutor requested the court to remand the defendant in custody while awaiting legal advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The court did not take a plea from the defendant. Chief Magistrate Kehinde Awosika ordered that he be held at the correctional centre until January 30, 2025, when the case will come up for mention.
