Inter Miami’s head coach, Javier Mascherano, has given his response following the 0-0 draw against Al-Ahly in their FIFA Club World Cup group stage clash held on Saturday.
Despite Al-Ahly’s dominance during the opening half, the Egyptian club was unable to convert their opportunities into goals.
The spotlight shone on Inter Miami’s shot-stopper, Oscar Ustari, who delivered a stellar performance, making a series of top-tier saves that kept his team in contention.
Ustari further made headlines by stopping a penalty from Trezeguet in the 43rd minute, ensuring Inter Miami stayed level before the break.
In the second half, the momentum shifted, with Inter Miami asserting more control over the match. However, despite multiple clear opportunities, Lionel Messi was unable to break the deadlock at the Hard Rock Stadium.
In his post-match comments, Mascherano praised his squad’s effort and maintained that they had the upper hand throughout the contest.
“We were aiming for a win, but I’m still pleased with how the team performed today,” Mascherano stated.
“That’s the nature of football. Evaluating the entire match, I believe we were the superior side.”
“We definitely played better than Al-Ahly in the second half. We held possession well and created several chances to score and secure the win.”
