A chemical explosion occurred on Friday evening at approximately 6 PM at 291 Old Abeokuta Motor Road, across from Vetland Secondary School in the Agege area of Lagos State. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed the incident, which left one person seriously injured.

Fire Service Quick to Respond

Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, stated that the Agege Fire and Rescue crew swiftly brought the situation under control after receiving the report. According to her, the team worked efficiently to extinguish the fire caused by an explosion involving multiple containers of chemicals of unknown types. These chemicals were stored in an open, fenced compound, with no protection against the heat of direct sunlight.

Cause of Explosion Under Investigation

Preliminary findings suggest that the heat radiation from sunlight contributed to the explosion. Authorities are still investigating the ownership and exact type of chemicals involved.

Injury Report

The explosion left one individual, a woman, with first-degree burns. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that she is responding well to treatment.

Safety Precautions Urged

This incident highlights the dangers of improperly storing chemicals, especially in open areas exposed to heat. Authorities are expected to issue further safety guidelines to prevent similar occurrences.
