Catholic Knight Renounces Christianity Over Church’s Failure to Acknowledge Ifeanyi Ubah’s Cathedral Contribution

A prominent member of the Catholic Church, Sir James Louise, popularly known as Ebube Anaedo, has publicly renounced Christianity following the church’s failure to recognize the role played by the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in the construction of the Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral in Nnewi.

Sir James Louise, who held the title of a Catholic Knight, expressed deep disappointment after the newly completed cathedral was officially inaugurated without any reference to the late senator’s involvement. The inauguration ceremony, held on Tuesday, drew a large crowd and was attended by notable personalities from different sectors.

Investigations revealed that the cathedral project was originally initiated by the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who voluntarily took up the responsibility of constructing the church edifice. Reports indicate that he had completed approximately 85 percent of the work before a change in church leadership occurred. In 2022, Bishop Dr. Jonas-Benson Okoye was transferred to the Nnewi Diocese and reportedly directed Senator Ubah to discontinue his involvement in the project.

This directive allegedly sparked tension between both parties, with several observers insisting that due credit should be given to the senator for his substantial financial and material commitment to the cathedral’s development. Many believed that the magnitude of his contribution deserved formal acknowledgment, regardless of later administrative decisions.

However, during the official commissioning of the cathedral, no mention of Senator Ubah was made—neither verbally nor within the event’s brochure. This omission reportedly triggered an emotional reaction from Sir James Louise, who openly protested after the church service.

In a video that later circulated widely on social media platforms, Sir James was seen visibly distressed as he removed his knighthood regalia, including his cap and shoes, in an act symbolizing his withdrawal from the faith. He lamented what he described as an injustice, stating that the cathedral—largely completed through the late senator’s effort—was inaugurated without acknowledging his sacrifice.

He emotionally declared that the failure to recognize such a significant contribution was unacceptable to him, describing the situation as deeply painful and disheartening. According to him, the experience marked his final day as a Christian, as he could no longer reconcile with what he perceived as unfair treatment.

The viral video has since generated widespread reactions online, with numerous social media users criticizing the Catholic Church for allegedly overlooking the late senator’s contribution. Others called for clarity and transparency from church authorities regarding the circumstances surrounding the cathedral’s completion.
