Billionaire businessman and Chairman of BUA Group, Abdulsamad Rabiu, has reaffirmed his commitment to reward Nigeria’s Super Eagles with $500,000, even though the team did not emerge as champions of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The industrialist made this known on Thursday through a heartfelt message shared on his official Instagram account, where he commended the national team for their unwavering determination, resilience, and strong fighting spirit throughout the tournament.
According to him, the Super Eagles demonstrated courage and unity in every match they played, qualities that extended beyond the final scoreline. He noted that while victory is always the goal, effort and dedication are equally worthy of recognition.
In his message, Rabiu emphasized that football, like life, does not always reward effort with immediate success. However, he stated that the discipline, teamwork, and passion displayed by the players were what truly mattered, adding that the team had given everything until the final whistle.
The BUA Chairman further revealed that, as a show of appreciation and encouragement, he would honour the $500,000 cash reward he had earlier promised the team before the start of the tournament. He described the gesture as a recognition of the players’ hard work, perseverance, and the excitement they brought to Nigerians during the competition.
The Super Eagles earned widespread admiration for their impressive journey to the latter stages of the tournament. However, their campaign came to an end after a narrow semi-final defeat to Morocco, following a goalless draw that eventually led to a dramatic penalty shootout.
Nigeria lost 4–2 on penalties to the host nation after a tense 0–0 stalemate at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, a match that tested the composure and endurance of both teams.
Despite the disappointment, Rabiu urged the players to remain optimistic and keep their morale high. He expressed confidence that the experience gained from the tournament would serve as a foundation for greater achievements in future international competitions.
