The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the interception of items believed to be explosive devices in Saki, located in the Oke Ogun axis of Oyo State.
This development was made public on Sunday through an official statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Olayinka Ayanlade.
Police officers on duty intercepted the vehicle, carried out a thorough inspection, and subsequently identified the materials as items suspected to be explosive devices. The driver of the truck was arrested at the scene and taken into custody for further questioning.
SP Ayanlade disclosed that both the truck and the suspected explosive materials have been secured and are currently under police custody to prevent any potential security risk.
He further explained that upon being briefed on the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, swiftly ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter to determine the nature and purpose of the items.
As part of the investigation, specialized units were immediately deployed to handle the situation professionally and safely. These units include personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit.
The Command confirmed that the truck driver is currently cooperating with investigators, as efforts continue to determine the origin, destination, and intended use of the suspected explosive materials.
The Oyo State Police Command reassured residents that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure safety and maintain public order as investigations progress.
