Rivers State Assembly Bars Governor Fubara from Budget Presentation
In a dramatic turn of events, twenty-seven lawmakers aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, obstructed Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara from entering the State House of Assembly on Wednesday morning. This move effectively stopped the governor from presenting the highly anticipated 2025 budget.
Governor Fubara Denied Entry into Rivers Assembly
According to reports, Governor Fubara had arrived at the legislative complex early in the morning to fulfill a crucial mandate—the presentation of the 2025 budget, in accordance with the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court judgment. However, Assembly officials claimed there was no prior communication regarding his visit.
An anonymous staff member of the Assembly disclosed, “I am not aware that the Governor was scheduled to visit today (Wednesday). If there was any formal notice, the Rt. Hon. Speaker would have informed us. At this moment, we have no record of his intended appearance.”
