Bello Turji Under Severe Pressure, Panic Sets In as Nigerian Military Intensifies North-West Operations

The Nigerian military has disclosed that notorious terrorist kingpin Bello Turji is currently under extreme operational pressure and has reportedly descended into panic as security forces escalate coordinated actions against criminal networks across the North-West region of the country.

This revelation was made by the Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Warrah Idris, during an interaction with defence correspondents on Wednesday. The briefing took place amid an operational tour of ongoing military engagements in Zamfara State, a known hotspot for bandit activities.

Although Bello Turji has not yet been arrested, the military leadership confirmed that he is being persistently targeted through sustained ground offensives, credible human intelligence gathering, and advanced surveillance systems. These combined efforts, according to the commander, have placed the wanted terrorist in a state of continuous disruption.

Major General Idris explained that recent intelligence reports indicate that Turji and members of his group are struggling to maintain stability due to the scale and intensity of the ongoing operations. He stated that the pressure has forced them to abandon fixed locations and move frequently in an attempt to evade military forces.

“Based on the most current intelligence received, Bello Turji and others are currently in confusion and panic because of the intensity of our ongoing operations. They are relocating every few hours or days,” Idris said.

The commander firmly dismissed widespread claims suggesting that Bello Turji controls any local government area or community within the North-West. He described such narratives as deliberate misinformation designed to exaggerate the strength of terrorist groups and undermine public confidence.

Questioning the logic behind such assertions, Idris challenged those spreading the reports to provide evidence.

“How does someone without a permanent location control an axis or a local government? I dare Bello Turji to come out and name a single local government he controls,” he said.

Beyond Turji, the military leadership confirmed that several other high-profile bandit commanders remain under close surveillance. These include Gwaska, Ado Aleru, and Dogo Gide, all of whom are being monitored across multiple operational corridors using available intelligence assets.

According to the Theatre Commander, security forces are leveraging every intelligence platform at their disposal to track the movements of these armed group leaders, stressing that sustained pressure will eventually neutralize them.

“All things being equal, Bello Turji will soon be history in the North-West. Leaders of these armed groups are being tracked through all available intelligence platforms,” Idris stated.

Addressing circulating reports about an alleged plan by the military to release 70 detained bandits, Idris categorically denied the claim. He clarified that no official directive, memo, or communication supports such information.

“We have not received any circular, letter or formal communication regarding the release of 70 terrorists. What we are hearing are rumours, and we consider them fake news,” he said.

He further cautioned members of the public to avoid spreading unverified reports, noting the rising trend of misinformation, including content generated through artificial intelligence tools, which can easily mislead and cause unnecessary panic.

On the issue of cross-border security, the commander revealed that Nigeria has enhanced intelligence collaboration with neighboring countries, particularly Niger Republic and Benin Republic, to curb the movement of armed groups across borders. This cooperation, he explained, is aimed at preventing groups such as the Lakurawa terrorists from exploiting regional boundaries.

Providing insight into recent successes, Idris disclosed that military operations conducted around the Kamba axis last month resulted in the elimination of several Lakurawa fighters. He added that weapons and motorcycles were recovered during the operations.

Reaffirming the commitment of the Armed Forces, the Theatre Commander assured Nigerians that the military remains resolute in its campaign against terrorism and banditry. He emphasized that challenges encountered in the field are addressed through established military command structures.

“We are ready to work, get more work and look for more work,” Idris said, expressing strong confidence in the effectiveness and eventual success of ongoing operations.
