The Bauchi State Police Command has urged the organizers of the “Take It Back Movement” planned protest on Monday, April 7, to reconsider their timing. The police cited concerns over public safety and the potential harm to the national image, as the protest coincides with National Police Day.
In a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the police emphasized the constitutional right to peaceful assembly but criticized the protest’s timing, calling it “untimely” and “potentially unpatriotic.”
The police further noted that the organizers had not formally notified the relevant security agencies or requested the necessary coverage for the protest. This, they stated, raises significant security concerns, especially as the day is set aside to honor the sacrifices of Nigeria’s police officers.
CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, the Commissioner of Police, instructed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to increase patrols in areas prone to unrest, preparing for any disturbances. He also warned that failure to adhere to proper protocols for organizing public demonstrations could result in consequences for any disruptions to peace.
While the police affirmed their commitment to upholding human rights and freedom of expression, they recommended that protest organizers engage with government institutions and submit detailed plans for future protests to ensure security arrangements.
Additionally, the police issued a public advisory, urging parents and guardians to discourage youth involvement in activities that could disrupt the state’s peace. Residents were also encouraged to report any suspicious activities via the Police Rescue Me app or emergency hotlines.
As reported by LMSINT Media, the protest, which will take place in Bauchi and other major cities, is part of the broader “Take It Back Movement” campaign calling for governance reforms. The movement aims to raise awareness on issues such as cyberbullying and the emergency declaration in Rivers State.
