Bandits have reportedly killed two people and abducted several others during a violent attack on Unguwar Nagunda, a community located in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The incident occurred on Sunday night when armed assailants stormed the village at the exact moment a wedding convoy was entering the community from Mabai, another settlement within the same local government area. The arrival of the convoy reportedly coincided with the bandits’ invasion, leading to chaos, panic, and loss of lives.
Bakatsine disclosed that at least two individuals lost their lives during the attack, while several others sustained gunshot injuries. Among those injured was the bride, who was reportedly part of the wedding convoy targeted by the bandits.
In addition to the fatalities and injuries, an unspecified number of wedding guests were abducted by the attackers. The exact figure of those taken away remains unknown, as families and community members are still making efforts to identify and account for their missing relatives.
In his statement, Bakatsine explained that residents described the situation as terrifying, with sustained gunshots echoing through the community as the bandits carried out the attack.
“Last night, bandits attacked Unguwar Nagunda in Kankara LGA, Katsina State, just as a wedding convoy was arriving from Mabai, another community in the same local government.
As of the time this report was filed, the Katsina State Police Command had not released any official statement regarding the attack or the condition of the abducted victims. Security agencies were also yet to confirm whether rescue operations had commenced.
The incident adds to the growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Katsina State, where rural communities have continued to face repeated attacks by armed groups.
