In a remarkable show of appreciation for local musical legends, the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has officially renamed the well-known Charly Boy Bus Stop in Lagos to Baddo Bus Stop, in recognition of Olamide Adedeji, a celebrated indigenous rapper and record label executive.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of Bariga LCDA, Kolade Alabi David, during a public commissioning ceremony for multiple infrastructural developments within the council on Friday. This renaming is part of a broader initiative to pay tribute to iconic Nigerian figures who have significantly influenced culture, music, and governance.

According to the chairman, the renaming of Ajidagan Street to Olamide Adedeji Baddo Street automatically results in the renaming of Charly Boy Bus Stop—an intersection previously named in honor of popular entertainer Charles Oputa, also known as Charly Boy—to Baddo Bus Stop.

“Ajidagan Street will now be called Olamide Adedeji Baddo Street. That means Charly Boy bus stop will now be called Baddo Bus Stop, no more Charly Boy,” said the council chairman.

This symbolic move highlights the LCDA’s efforts to immortalize cultural icons and infuse a sense of pride within the community. Olamide, often referred to as “Baddo” or “Baddo Sneh”, is widely acknowledged for his contributions to Nigeria’s music scene and for promoting indigenous sounds globally through his YBNL Nation label.

Other Street Renamings Across Bariga LCDA

In the same spirit of recognition, the council also announced the renaming of several other notable roads within the Bariga area. These include:

  • Ilaje Road, now renamed after the legendary juju music icon King Sunny Ade.
  • Ifeanyi Street, now named in honor of 9ice, the renowned artist behind the timeless hit “Gongo Aso“.
  • Community Road, Akoka, has been renamed Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road, in tribute to the current Governor of Lagos State.
  • Bariga Road has been officially renamed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road, in honor of Nigeria’s President and the former Lagos State Governor.
  • Ayodele Street is now known as Tony Tetuila Street, acknowledging the Afropop star known for his influence in the early 2000s.

These changes represent a renewed focus by Bariga LCDA to inspire a sense of cultural identity and civic pride by naming public spaces after Nigerians whose legacies have shaped the country’s creative and political landscape.
