Why Nigeria of All Countries? South Africans React as Nigerian Pastor Faces Deportation After Losing UK Visa Battle

Nigerian Pastor Tobi Adegboyega to Be Deported After Losing UK Immigration Tribunal Case Tobi Adegboyega, a controversial Nigerian pastor and former leader of the SPAC Nation church, has lost his fight to remain in the UK. The immigration tribunal ruled in favor of deporting him back to Nigeria, despite his claims that the move would violate his human rights under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). Who is Pastor Tobi Adegboyega? Adegboyega, 44, is a cousin of renowned Star Wars actor John Boyega. He gained notoriety as the leader of SPAC Nation, a London-based church catering primarily to young Black communities. The organization claimed to help young people escape crime and find purpose through faith. However, the church was shut down due to financial irregularities and allegations of misconduct. Despite his marriage to a British citizen and his claims of contributing positively to the community, the UK Home Office presented evidence suggesting otherwise. Key Allegations Against SPAC Nation and Adegboyega The tribunal found that the church operated more like a cult, preying on young people under the guise of religious guidance. Adegboyega’s Defense and Tribunal Findings Adegboyega’s legal team described him as a charismatic leader whose work had been recognized by notable figures, including former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson. However, no evidence from these individuals was presented in court. He also argued that his absence would hinder community projects he spearheaded. Yet, the tribunal noted that much of his work was exaggerated, with no substantial proof that his departure would negatively impact these initiatives. The judgment declared his claims “hyperbolic,” stating: “We are not satisfied that the good work SPAC Nation undertakes generally would collapse or even significantly suffer should the Appellant be required to leave the UK.” Background of Immigration Issues Adegboyega has been living in the UK unlawfully since overstaying his visitor’s visa in 2005. In 2019, he applied for leave to remain, citing the ECHR’s right to family life, but his application was rejected. His recent appeal failed to sway the tribunal, which deemed his case “wholly proportionate” for deportation. What Happens Next? Adegboyega is now set to return to Nigeria, a decision met with mixed reactions. While some see this as justice served, others argue it highlights flaws in the UK immigration system. This case underscores the importance of transparency and accountability, especially for leaders in positions of influence. It also raises questions about how faith organizations are monitored and regulated globally. Join Our WhatsApp Group Hear:

Despite the potential economic benefits, critics argue that the policy does not align with South Africans’ sentiments toward Nigerian visitors. Concerns over crime and strained public services have fueled some of the backlash. Rhapsody of Realities 4th December 2024. HE DRAWS THEM IN THROUGH HIS MESSAGE

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him…(John 6:44). The Lord Jesus explained that God draws individuals through His Word and His message: “It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me” (John 6:45). When people hear the message and respond in faith, they’re drawn to Jesus because “…faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). This means for someone to come to Christ, they first need to hear the message of the Gospel (Romans 10:14). This underscores the importance of our individual responsibility in preaching and sharing the Gospel because it is through this proclamation that God draws people to Himself. So, more than ever before, preach the Gospel with conviction. In Romans 1:16-17, Paul’s conviction is palpable as he asserts that the Gospel is the definitive power of God for salvation. No wonder he preached it boldly, covering whole regions and territories with the Gospel, even at the peril of his life. He said in Romans 15:19, “…from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.” His valedictory remarks to the Christians at Ephesus, just before he rounded off his ministry, will provoke your faith for the Gospel and literally make you weep in intercession for souls. Read the entire portion in Acts 20:18-27. Paul knew that there are no alternatives; the Gospel is the singular pathway to salvation for all who believe. Therefore, like Paul, be resolute and absolute in your commitment to proclaiming the Gospel. Refuse to stay silent in your workplace, in the marketplace, and in your community. Consider the divine connections and opportunities God orchestrates in your life—the people you meet, the places you go—they’re not just for your personal gain but opportunities to share the message of salvation. Proclaim Christ to everyone you meet, recognizing that God networks us primarily to fulfil His eternal purpose of drawing people to Himself through us. Hallelujah! PRAYERDear Father, I recognize that it is through the proclamation of your Word that you draw people unto yourself. I walk in boldness and clarity as I share the message of salvation with those in my sphere. I see every encounter as an opportunity orchestrated by you to bring others into the Kingdom. By your Spirit, I’m empowered to be an effective witness of your grace and love to a hurting world, in Jesus’ Name. Amen. FURTHER STUDY:|| Mark 16:15-16And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. || || Acts 1:8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. || || Matthew 28:19-20Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen. || || Romans 1:16For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. || Daily Affirmation: I function with supernatural strength and abilities today; nothing and no one can hurt or harm me, for my sufficiency is of God. My body was fashioned for the Lord’s presence. It is the temple of the Holy Spirit, therefore sickness, disease and anything that hurts or binds have no place here. I live in the ageless zone, where I can only grow without aging. Each day, I get stronger and healthier. Like the eagle, my strength and my youth are renewed. The plan of the enemy against me is completely null and void. I have peace all around me! I am never without strength because the Strengthener – the Holy Spirit – is in me. He ministers to my body and energizes me in health, strength, and vigor. Weakness is not an option in my life because the Holy Ghost dwells in me. I am empowered with might from within; therefore, I am victorious at every count and in everything. I refuse to live or function by natural abilities or within human capacities. I make full proof of God’s limitless power that has been deposited in my spirit; thus, I reign, rule, and dominate my world. The Lord is my Shepherd—to feed, guide and shield me; I lack nothing! He makes me lie down in fresh, tender green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. Therefore, I walk in ever-increasing prosperity, possessing enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation. The glory of God is evident in my finances, health, family, business, and ministry. Christ in me is my guarantee of perfect health, prosperity, and success. Eternal life flows into everything I lay my hands on to do, causing endless prosperity. God’s divine power has given unto me all things that pertain to life and godliness. I live in endless prosperity. I declare that I am reigning in life–in my health, finances, job, and every area of my life. I walk in the victory and dominion of Christ today. I manifest life, glory, and excellence in every fiber of my being, and I grow from strength to strength every day. I live above the systems of the world. I’m seated together with Christ, far above principalities, powers, and the elements of this realm in Jesus’ name. Amen. Speak in tongues.

EFCC Responds to Sowore’s Criticism Over Seizure of 753 Luxury Properties in Abuja

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has firmly countered criticisms by activist Omoyele Sowore regarding its historic recovery of 753 luxury duplexes and apartments in Abuja. The properties, located at Plot 109, Cadastral Zone C09, Lokogoma District, were officially forfeited to the Federal Government on December 2, 2024. EFCC’s Legal Justification for Seizure In a statement released by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity, the EFCC clarified that the forfeiture followed legal procedures outlined in the Advance Fee Fraud Act. This law permits civil proceedings for property seizure based on actionable intelligence, focusing on unclaimed properties rather than individuals. The EFCC emphasized that its investigation was comprehensive and transparent, involving publicized media notices to identify the estate’s owners. However, the company linked to the estate denied ownership, prompting the commission to seek a final forfeiture order from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, granted by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie. Addressing Sowore’s Allegations Sowore criticized the EFCC for allegedly shielding the identity of the estate’s promoters. The EFCC dismissed these claims, explaining that no specific individuals were connected to the properties’ title documents during the investigation. The commission described Sowore’s remarks as “unacceptable and grossly uncharitable,” urging him to acknowledge its efforts in combating corruption. EFCC’s Broader Fight Against Corruption The EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to fighting corruption without fear or favor, stating, “The substantive criminal investigation on this matter is ongoing. The EFCC operates with a no-sacred-cow policy, ensuring accountability and transparency in its actions.” The agency also criticized the systemic failures that allowed such large-scale corruption to thrive, reiterating its dedication to promoting a corruption-free Nigeria. Key Takeaways: This landmark recovery underscores the EFCC’s resolve to address systemic corruption and ensure justice prevails in Nigeria. Join Our WhatsApp Group Hear:

Akpabio Warns Senate Committee Chairmen: Non-Performance Will Lead to Removal

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has issued a stern warning to all chairmen of Senate standing committees, emphasizing that underperformance will not be tolerated. He made it clear that committee leaders who fail to deliver on their mandates may be replaced to ensure effective oversight and legislative accountability. Senate Oversight on Revenue-Generating Agencies Senator Akpabio’s remarks came in response to concerns raised by Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP, Bauchi Central) regarding the Senate Committee on Finance’s failure to perform oversight on 92 revenue-generating agencies. Akpabio expressed dissatisfaction with how some Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) have continued to disregard Senate invitations, highlighting the urgent need for committees to assert their authority. “If any committee finds it difficult to oversee its assigned agencies, we will not hesitate to restructure and appoint capable individuals who can deliver results for the benefit of democracy,” Akpabio stated. Deadline for Committee Oversight Reports To enhance accountability, Akpabio has directed all committee chairmen to submit detailed oversight activity reports by January 31, 2025. These reports will help identify challenges and assess the performance of the committees in addressing critical national issues. Enforcing Legislative Powers Senator Akpabio reminded lawmakers of their constitutional authority to issue warrants of arrest against uncooperative MDA heads. He stressed the importance of committees exercising their oversight powers effectively. “Our constitution empowers us to summon and demand accountability from MDAs. Any committee that overlooks non-compliance indirectly allows such agencies to disregard their legislative obligations, turning negligence into a norm,” Akpabio warned. Senate Committees: A Key Pillar of Accountability With over 70 standing committees in the Senate, each composed of a chairman, vice-chairman, and members, these committees play a critical role in ensuring the effective functioning of government agencies. Established in line with the Senate’s Standing Orders, their responsibilities include oversight, legislative scrutiny, and policy review. The Bottom Line Akpabio’s message underscores the Senate’s commitment to strengthening democracy through robust oversight and accountability. His call to action challenges committee leaders to rise to the occasion or face the consequences of non-performance. Join Our WhatsApp Group Hear:

Delaware Judge Rejects Elon Musk’s $56 Billion Tesla Pay Package Again

A Delaware judge has reaffirmed her decision to reject Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s controversial $56 billion compensation package, despite a recent shareholder vote in favor of reinstating it. The ruling, issued by Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick of the Court of Chancery, underscores the legal and ethical complexities surrounding executive pay at the world’s most valuable carmaker. Why the Pay Package Was Denied In her detailed 101-page opinion, Chancellor McCormick stated that Tesla’s efforts to “reset” the pay package were invalid. She emphasized that allowing parties to create new circumstances to overturn judgments would lead to endless litigation. Additionally, McCormick noted that Musk had undue influence over the pay negotiations, violating corporate governance standards. The judge also criticized Tesla’s proxy statements for containing material misstatements, which she argued disqualified the subsequent shareholder vote from legitimizing the package. Tesla and Musk Plan to Appeal Tesla expressed disagreement with the ruling, calling it “wrong” and confirming plans to appeal to the Delaware Supreme Court. The appeal process, which could extend over a year, is expected to test the limits of shareholder influence versus judicial oversight. Musk, on his social media platform X, reiterated his belief that “shareholders should control company votes, not judges.” Implications for Tesla and Its Shareholders The rejected pay plan was initially designed to award Musk stock options tied to Tesla’s performance and valuation milestones. Valued at $56 billion in 2018, the package could now be worth $101 billion, given Tesla’s significant stock rally following Donald Trump’s recent presidential election victory. The uncertainty surrounding Musk’s compensation has raised concerns among Tesla investors. Some fear that rescinding the package could lead Musk to shift focus to other ventures, such as SpaceX or artificial intelligence projects, potentially hindering Tesla’s future growth. Legal and Financial Fallout The case has also resulted in significant legal fees. Tesla was ordered to pay $345 million in attorney fees to the plaintiffs, making it one of the largest fee awards in securities litigation history. Shareholder Sentiment and Future Prospects The ruling has sparked widespread debate among Tesla’s devoted shareholder base. While many argue that Musk deserves the compensation for achieving Tesla’s ambitious goals, others are concerned about corporate governance and the precedent such a pay package might set. Prominent Tesla investor Gary Black voiced hope that the Delaware Supreme Court would overturn the ruling, calling it “too rigid.” Meanwhile, Musk’s supporters on X have rallied behind him, emphasizing the need to respect shareholder votes. What’s Next? As Tesla and Musk prepare for their appeal, the case highlights broader questions about executive compensation, corporate accountability, and the balance of power between shareholders and courts. With Musk also taking on a new role in government efficiency under President Trump’s administration, his influence continues to expand beyond the corporate world, further complicating Tesla’s trajectory. Key Takeaways Tesla’s appeal will be closely watched as it could redefine corporate governance and executive compensation practices in the United States.

E-transfer Levy Sparks Outrage as POS Operators Increase Fees

In a move that has sparked widespread dissatisfaction, operators of Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals have increased their charges, following the implementation of the Federal Inland Revenue Service’s (FIRS) Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL). This N50 levy applies to any electronic transfer of N10,000 or more, in line with the new tax regulations. Starting December 1, 2024, several fintech platforms, including Moniepoint, PalmPay, and OPay, began notifying their customers of the N50 charge on any electronic inflow of N10,000 or more. The levy, part of the Finance Act 2020, is designed to bring more electronic transactions under the scope of the Stamp Duty Act. Moniepoint clarified in an email that the N50 charge will be applied to inflows above N10,000, but emphasized that the company does not benefit from the levy. Instead, it is collected by Moniepoint and remitted to the FIRS. PalmPay echoed this, stating that the levy, effective November 30, 2024, would be remitted directly to the federal government. Some POS operators, however, are struggling with the impact of the levy, particularly in regions with limited cash availability. Kazeem Adewale, a POS operator in Ogun State, voiced his frustrations, explaining that many customers are upset about the increase in charges. Other operators, such as Mrs. Helen Faniran in Ondo, shared that the cost of acquiring cash from local vendors has increased, leading to higher transaction fees. While some POS operators are gradually introducing the new charges, others, like a Lagos-based vendor, have yet to implement them. Consumers have also taken to social media to voice their concerns. One user on X (formerly Twitter), Sam Addai, criticized the levy, calling it an unfair tax on digital transactions. Another user, 6xstem, called it “robbery in broad daylight.” As the EMTL continues to be enforced, the increase in POS charges is causing growing unease among Nigerian consumers, who are questioning the fairness and transparency of this new financial burden.
