The Kano State Police Command has apprehended three individuals in connection with the possession of counterfeit currencies valued at an astounding N129 billion. The arrest was confirmed by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, during a press briefing on Tuesday. The breakdown of the seized fake currencies includes $3,366,000 (US Dollars), CFA51,970,000, and N1,443,000 (Naira), alongside other currencies stolen from a foreign exchange dealer. According to SP Kiyawa, the suspects are currently in police custody, cooperating in an ongoing investigation aimed at identifying the counterfeit currency producers. In addition to the fake money, police operatives recovered six live ammunition, three tricycles, eight motorcycles, and 175 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp. Further items recovered include 250 pieces of diazepam tablets, 278 sheep, and seven cattle. SP Kiyawa highlighted the Command’s proactive approach to combating crime, noting significant progress in addressing issues such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and drug trafficking. “These efforts not only lead to the arrest of offenders but also serve as a deterrent to others contemplating criminal acts,” he remarked. Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello is set to spend Christmas, New Year, and up to 50 nights in detention after the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja denied his bail application.
