UK-based Nigerian pastor Tobi Adegboyega, founder of SPAC Nation church, recently spoke out on the controversies surrounding his immigration status and allegations of financial misconduct. In a BBC interview on Friday, Adegboyega clarified that contrary to reports, there is no deportation order against him, despite claims of an immigration tribunal ruling for his removal from the UK. Adegboyega, who arrived in the UK in 2005 on a visitor’s visa at the age of 25, acknowledged overstaying his visa. However, he explained that the delay in regularizing his immigration status was unintentional. “I lost track of time,” he said, revealing that he had assumed his family was handling the necessary paperwork. The pastor also addressed the claims linking him to a £1.87 million fraud involving church funds, calling the allegations “baseless” and blaming “disgruntled members” of his congregation. “How on earth do you run an organisation without disgruntled people?” he asked during the interview. In defense of his church’s impact, Adegboyega highlighted SPAC Nation’s community work in the UK, particularly in combating gun violence and reducing knife crime. “Our church has helped get hundreds of knives off the streets,” he said, underscoring the positive contributions of his ministry. Responding to criticisms of his luxury lifestyle, the pastor explained that his fashion choices are deliberate. “I put on what is right, what connects to the generation I’m speaking to, so they are not attracted to drug dealers,” he stated. While the legal battle over his immigration status is ongoing, Adegboyega made it clear that no deportation order has been issued and that the issue is now in the hands of the judges. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has invited former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election on its platform. Ibrahim Abdullahi, PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, expressed disappointment at the prospect of Jonathan joining another party, emphasizing that the PDP has always supported his political rise. Abdullahi reflected on the party’s historical contributions to Nigeria’s leadership, mentioning prominent figures like former governors, ministers, and international leaders who are products of the PDP. He urged Jonathan to complete what he started within the party, warning that running with another party would highlight the “hypocrisy” of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He also cautioned Jonathan to be wary of those who previously criticized him but are now praising him, warning that such sudden affection could be misleading. The emergence of presidential campaign posters for Jonathan in Kano, under the banner of ‘Team New Nigeria,’ has sparked speculation about his potential bid for the 2027 election. The movement, which had also pushed for Jonathan’s candidacy under the APC during the 2023 elections, has rekindled interest in his political future. Political figures from northern Nigeria have also reportedly started efforts to draft Jonathan into the race, believing that he is eligible for another term after his presidency from 2011 to 2015. Internally, the PDP is facing significant challenges, with the party’s future largely dependent on the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in February 2025. The meeting is expected to address key issues, including the ongoing leadership struggles within the party. The delay in convening the NEC meeting has sparked criticism, with some members suggesting that the longer the delay, the more detrimental it will be for the PDP’s prospects. Key figures within the PDP, such as former Deputy National Publicity Secretary Diran Odeyemi, argue that the party’s internal conflicts, especially surrounding the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, have hindered progress. The outcome of the February meeting will be crucial in determining the direction of the party. David Jimkuta, the Senator representing Taraba South, has urged political leaders to stay connected with their roots and prioritize their constituents, regardless of their current status. Speaking at the Nigeria Law School in Bwari, Abuja, Jimkuta shared his humble beginnings as an Okada rider (commercial motorcyclist) and commended Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike for supporting the school. Supporting Constituencies: A Leader’s ResponsibilityDuring the event, where Wike donated seven vehicles and launched the construction of 10 four-bedroom staff bungalows, Senator Jimkuta praised the minister for giving back to his alma mater. He highlighted the importance of remembering and supporting one’s primary constituency, stating: “Before becoming a senator, I was once an Okada man. I still give back to them because that’s where I come from. What the minister is doing is commendable—it’s about giving, not politics. Whoever thinks otherwise should try their luck.” Jimkuta emphasized the value of staying grounded and giving back, reflecting his commitment to uplifting his community. Overcoming Political ChallengesSenator Jimkuta’s rise to the Senate wasn’t without challenges. During the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election, he secured 170 votes to defeat his opponent, Danjuma Shiddi, the incumbent House of Representatives member. However, his name was initially excluded from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) list in favor of Shiddi. Undeterred, Jimkuta took the matter to court. Although he lost at the Federal High Court in Jalingo, he triumphed at the appellate court. Shiddi escalated the case to the Supreme Court, where Jimkuta once again emerged victorious, solidifying his place on the ballot. A Historic Electoral WinIn the general senatorial election, Jimkuta pulled off a significant upset by defeating the then-incumbent Governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate. Jimkuta garnered 85,415 votes, while Ishaku managed 45,708 votes—a testament to the senator’s resilience and strong connection with the people. Leadership Rooted in HumilityJimkuta’s journey from an Okada rider to a senator is a powerful story of perseverance and humility. His advocacy for supporting primary constituencies serves as a reminder to leaders to remain grounded and prioritize those who helped them rise. As Jimkuta stated during the event, such gestures are not about politics but about responsibility and gratitude. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him (John 17:1-2). What confidence Jesus had, to state that God had given Him power over all flesh to give them eternal life. This means Jesus is the One who gives eternal life. If He’s the Lord of your life, you have eternal life in you because He gives eternal life to all those over whom He’s Lord. You can only know and understand life when you know the source of life, and that’s Jesus Christ. The next verse says, “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” (John 17:3). Notice how Jesus classifies Himself here with God because He is Himself God. He didn’t say, “that they might know thee, the only true God,” and stop there. He said “and Jesus Christ”; meaning you’ve got to know God and you’ve got to know Jesus Christ. You can’t have one without the other. Jesus is eternal life; that’s the reason He can give it. So, if you don’t know Him, you can’t know life. The Bible says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). Again, we see that God gives eternal life through Jesus Christ. This truth gets even clearer in 1 John 5:11-12, which says, “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” He says, “…this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life….” Observe the tenses. It doesn’t say if you have the Son, God will give you life. Rather, it says, “If you have the Son, you have life.” That’s the same thing Jesus said in John 6:47: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” Glory to His Name forever! PRAYERDear Father, I thank you for the eternal life that I have received through Jesus Christ. I rejoice that I have your life and nature in me, making me more than a conqueror. I walk in the consciousness of this divine life, and I manifest your glory, love and power as I share this truth with others, in Jesus’ Name. Amen. FURTHER STUDY:|| John 3:36He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. || || John 10:26-27But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: || || 1 John 5:11-13 NIVAnd this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. || READ ALSO: Every day of my life is full of God’s glory, beauty, excellence, and grace.
