Muslims Advised to Vote Against Candidates Opposing Shariah Courts Sheikh Dr. Ridwan Jamiu, the Chief Imam of Lekki Central Mosque, has urged Muslims to reject any governorship candidate who is unwilling to support the establishment of Shariah courts in their respective states. During his Jumaat sermon at Lekki Central Mosque last Friday, Dr. Jamiu emphasized the importance of accountability regarding political candidates’ stance on Shariah law. He encouraged Muslims to carefully scrutinize their choices before casting their votes. “With elections approaching, it is crucial that any governorship candidate seeking your support must show commitment to setting up Shariah courts,” he declared. Call for Written Commitments from Candidates Dr. Jamiu went further to encourage Muslims to demand a formal written pledge from candidates to confirm their dedication to establishing these courts. He stressed that Shariah courts in the Southwest are long overdue and that it is time for Muslims to assert their constitutional rights. Shariah Courts: Exclusively for Muslims Dr. Jamiu also addressed concerns about the potential impact of Shariah courts on non-Muslims. He reassured that these courts exclusively serve Muslims and have not posed any issues in northern states where they are already operational. “Shariah courts exist in the North, and they have never harmed non-Muslims. These courts are solely meant for Muslims, and their implementation in the Southwest should not be a concern for others,” he affirmed. A Call to Action for Muslim Voters The Imam concluded his sermon by urging Muslims to make their voices heard at the ballot box. He advised them to withhold their votes from any candidate unwilling to support Shariah courts in their state. “Any candidate who refuses to commit to establishing Shariah courts in your state should not receive your vote.
