A US District Court judge has rejected a union’s urgent appeal to stop the termination of thousands of probationary federal employees, granting President Donald Trump another legal victory in his plan to downsize the government workforce. District Judge Christopher Cooper ruled on Thursday that his court lacked jurisdiction over the union’s request, advising that such cases should be handled by the Federal Labor Relations Authority. This ruling arrives as approximately 6,700 IRS employees—all on probation—face immediate dismissal, intensifying concerns just weeks before the critical April 15 tax filing deadline. An anonymous former IRS officer, laid off during this sweep, revealed how employees were blindsided, receiving emails to report to the office with their IDs and laptops. “This has completely upended our lives,” she shared, highlighting the lack of severance and looming financial challenges like mortgage payments and health insurance coverage. IRS Enforcement Teams Hit Hard Before Tax Season The majority of affected workers came from the IRS enforcement division, responsible for ensuring tax compliance among corporations and high-net-worth individuals. Critics warn that the layoffs could hinder the agency’s capacity during peak tax season, shifting the burden onto remaining staff. A probationary IRS worker, who requested anonymity, explained how even mid-level managers were unaware of the impending cuts. “It was a complete shock,” he said, blaming the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—an entity spearheaded by Elon Musk, a prominent Trump supporter. DOGE has been central to Trump’s aggressive cost-cutting efforts, leading to widespread government downsizing. Yet, insiders claim that the department intentionally masked its involvement, making it appear as if agencies themselves initiated the layoffs. Legal Pushback and Mixed Rulings Despite legal challenges, union efforts to pause the terminations have so far failed. A separate federal judge also denied an emergency request from 14 Democratic-led states contesting DOGE’s authority, marking another blow to opponents of the layoffs. Meanwhile, the Trump administration’s voluntary buyout program—aimed at reducing government size—enticed over 75,000 federal employees to resign in exchange for severance, though many workers now feel trapped between bad options. “This whole process feels unnecessarily cruel,” a dismissed IRS revenue agent commented, expressing frustration over the government’s approach to cutting costs at the expense of middle-class workers. What This Means for Federal Workers These mass firings have sparked heated debates about worker rights, government efficiency, and the upcoming tax season. As unions continue to push for legal interventions, thousands of affected employees face uncertain futures without severance or immediate job prospects. Tuesday,Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). I love the James Moffatt’s rendering of the verse above. It says, “For the Logos of God is a living thing, active and more cutting than any sword with double edge, penetrating to the very division of soul and spirit, joints and marrow — scrutinizing the very thoughts and conceptions of the heart.” That’s the Word; it’s a living thing. The Amplified version says, “It’s living and active”: “For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Imagine inundating your spirit with the Word; it’ll have a great impact on your soul and body! When the pressures of life come, when you’re squeezed by life’s challenges, it’s the Word that’ll come forth. And God’s Word is God’s creative material; it’ll produce what it talks about. 1 Timothy 4:15 says, “Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.” Also, Joshua 1:8 says, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” Instead of worrying about your health and trying to figure out every little sensation in your body; meditate onthe Word. The Word will keep you in health and safety. When you face difficulties, respond with the Word. God’sWord holds the power to change circumstances and bring life to every situation. US Deports 135 Migrants to Costa Rica Amid Global Repatriation Efforts The United States deported 135 migrants of multiple nationalities, including 65 minors, to Costa Rica on Thursday, according to official reports from the Costa Rican government. The deportation flight, which left San Diego, California, landed at a facility adjacent to Juan Santamaria International Airport, confirmed by an AFP journalist. Upon arrival, the deported individuals were transported by bus from the Costa Rican capital, San Jose, to a migrant facility located near the Panamanian border, approximately 360 kilometers (224 miles) away. The 65 minors aboard the flight were all accompanied by relatives, and according to Costa Rica’s Deputy Interior Minister, Omer Badilla, none of the deportees had a criminal record. The group included individuals from Afghanistan, China, Iran, Russia, Armenia, Georgia, Vietnam, Jordan, Kazakhstan, and Ghana, reflecting the global nature of migration challenges. These migrants will remain in Costa Rica temporarily before being repatriated to their home countries or relocated to alternative host nations. Costa Rica, alongside Panama and Guatemala, continues to collaborate with the United States on migration management, agreeing to temporarily house deported individuals until proper repatriation can occur. Just last week, Panama received 299 deported migrants, with around 100 of them being relocated to the San Vicente refugee camp in Meteti, located in Panama’s jungle-rich Darien province. This coordinated effort highlights ongoing strategies by the US and Central American nations to manage migration flows while ensuring the humane treatment and safe repatriation of individuals, especially minors. The Nigerian government is considering reigniting discussions with Ethiopian Airlines to establish a new national carrier under a fresh identity, according to sources cited by Punch Newspaper. This move comes after the collapse of the Nigeria Air project in 2024, which had initially planned for Ethiopian Airlines to hold a 49% stake. The Nigeria Air initiative, championed by former President Muhammadu Buhari and ex-Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika, was scrapped following a change in administration. The new government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, dismissed the project, criticizing it as a poorly structured deal that did not prioritize Nigerian interests. In August 2024, the Lagos High Court declared the project “null and void” after a legal challenge by the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), who argued that it would unfairly impact local carriers. Allegations of corruption surrounding the project remain under investigation. Despite initial diplomatic tensions between Nigeria and Ethiopia over the failed venture, recent reports suggest that both nations have resumed dialogue. While Minister Keyamo visited Ethiopian Airlines, he denied any active talks about reviving the national carrier. However, industry insiders believe that alternative plans could be under review. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, permanent secretary at Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, also clarified that while there’s an ongoing conversation about establishing a national carrier, it does not involve reinstating the Nigeria Air deal. If successful, a new partnership could strengthen Nigeria’s aviation sector while fostering regional cooperation. As the government navigates the complexities of this potential collaboration, stakeholders remain keenly interested in how future developments might reshape the country’s airline industry. Johannesburg, South Africa — Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has made a powerful call for urgent reforms in the global economic system at the ongoing G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Johannesburg. Highlighting the need for economic equity, global security, and sustainable development, Tuggar emphasized that developing nations, including Nigeria, continue to face significant challenges fueled by external financial pressures and inequitable trade structures. Tuggar lauded South Africa’s leadership as the current G20 Presidency and pledged Nigeria’s full support for its core priorities—disaster resilience, debt sustainability, just energy transition, and the strategic use of critical minerals to foster inclusive growth. Pushing for Financial Equity and Inclusive Global Growth The Minister stressed the urgent need for structural reforms in global financial systems to enable developing countries to thrive. He called for a fairer international financial framework that ensures broader access to funding and fosters sustainable economic growth, particularly in Africa. According to a statement by his Media Aide, Alkasim Abdulkadir, Tuggar urged global financial institutions to implement reforms that prioritize long-term growth over restrictive lending conditions, which often stifle development in emerging economies. Tackling Global Security and Socio-Economic Challenges Expanding on global security concerns, Tuggar addressed the surge in global conflicts and humanitarian crises. He called for collective international action and stressed the importance of economic stability in promoting peace. Nigeria, he noted, remains committed to global peacekeeping initiatives. In combating terrorism, Tuggar advocated for a holistic approach that goes beyond military strategies. He emphasized the need for investments in education, healthcare, and employment opportunities—key factors in reducing extremism and promoting long-term stability in vulnerable regions. Tax Justice and Combating Illicit Financial Flows A central focus of Tuggar’s address was the issue of tax justice. He called on G20 members to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s initiative to curb capital flight and tax evasion by multinational corporations. Highlighting the adverse effects of illicit financial flows on African economies, Tuggar urged for stronger regulations against tax havens and demanded increased transparency in global financial transactions. He called for international collaboration to tackle financial corruption and ensure equitable benefits from global trade and investments. Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to fostering a global economic system that supports inclusive growth and leaves no nation behind. US-Canada Hockey Rivalry Heats Up with Trump’s Remarks Former US President Donald Trump has once again sparked controversy by mocking Canada as a potential “51st state” ahead of a much-anticipated hockey match between the two nations. With tensions already high due to trade disputes and past verbal spats, Trump’s latest comments have further intensified the competitive spirit surrounding the game. The final match of the Four Nations Face-Off tournament, set to take place in Boston, has become more than just a sporting event. Political undertones have fueled emotions on both sides, particularly after Trump’s administration imposed tariffs on Canadian imports. The previous clash between the two teams in Montreal saw aggressive gameplay, including multiple fights and Canadian fans loudly booing the US national anthem. Trump Calls for a US Victory, Takes Another Jab at Canada According to the White House, Trump personally called Team USA after their morning practice session to extend his support. In a social media post, he reiterated his stance, stating: “Let’s go Team USA! With FAR LOWER TAXES AND MUCH STRONGER SECURITY, Canada will one day, maybe soon, become our cherished, and very important, Fifty First State.” Despite being unable to attend the game due to a prior commitment with US governors in Washington, Trump assured fans he would be watching and even invited Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to join him. This latest remark continues Trump’s pattern of referring to Trudeau as a mere “US governor,” a statement that has drawn criticism from Canadian officials and media outlets. White House Joins in on the Mockery White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed Trump’s sentiments, jokingly stating: “We look forward to the United States beating our soon-to-be 51st state.” While his comments carried a sharp political edge, Trump did attempt to soften the rhetoric by offering a sportsmanlike message: “Good luck to both teams. Let’s have a GREAT game tonight. So exciting!” Hockey: A Deeply Rooted Part of Canadian Identity Hockey has long been a source of national pride for Canadians, making Trump’s remarks even more provocative. The Toronto Star reported that a recent Rogers survey found that over 75% of Canadians view hockey as an integral part of their national identity. Additionally, a majority believe that Canada’s international pride is closely linked to its success in the sport. Given these strong sentiments, Canadian fans are expected to rally behind their team with even more passion in response to Trump’s latest comments. Should Canada claim victory, many anticipate a significant surge in national pride, making this more than just a game—it’s a statement. The Final Showdown: A Game with Political Undertones As the puck drops at 8:00 PM ET (0100 GMT Friday), all eyes will be on Boston to witness the rematch between these two fierce hockey rivals. Beyond the sport itself, the game symbolizes an ongoing struggle between two neighboring nations, both on the ice and in political rhetoric. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly… (Colossians 3:16). There’s something so important and beautiful that Jesus said in John 15:7, and it explains why you need to have the Word of God abundantly in you. He said, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” You have to abide in Him and have His Word abide in you. That’s what fortifies you against the troubles and adversities of life. It brings to mind what He said in John 8:31, “…If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.” It’s about abiding or continuing in His Word, doing the Word, never giving up. But if you don’t know His words, how can they abide in you? You’ve got to hear them, learn them, study them, and keep them in you. And here’s the beautiful result of having the Word abide in you: “…ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you” (John 15:7). The word translated “ask” here is ‘aiteo,’ which means “to call or require.” So, itmeans to call up or call forth what you desire. The phrase “be done” comes from the Greek word “ginomai,” meaning to come into being. The Lord Jesus is saying, “If my words abide in you, you shall call whatever you think about, whatever you require, and it will come into being.” That’s powerful! It makes spiritual sense because if God’s Word is abundant in you, why should you beg for anything? God’s Word is the creator of all things. The Bible says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:1-3). If all things were made by the Word, and that Word is in you, why not release the Word instead of begging? Call forth what you desire, and it will manifest; it will leap into reality! So, heap up the Word in you and it’ll cause you to triumph in life. PRAYERDear Father, thank you for the power of your Word at work in me. Your Word is in my heart and on my lips. Even now, I call forth my desires; your Word on my lips creates realities. All things work together for my good, and I live a victorious, fulfilled life because I walk in the light of your Word, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
