EPL: Gary Neville Predicts Tough 10 Weeks for Arsenal in Premier League Title Race

Former Manchester United captain, Gary Neville, has suggested that Arsenal are currently battling visible tension as the Premier League title race intensifies. Neville made the remarks during his appearance on Sky Sports, where he co-commentated on Arsenal’s narrow 2-1 victory over Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. The win strengthened the Gunners’ push at the summit of the league standings, yet Neville believes signs of pressure are beginning to show. Speaking about the situation, he explained that Mikel Arteta’s squad appear slightly anxious amid the championship pursuit. However, he emphasized that their previous disappointments in recent seasons — when they narrowly missed out on lifting the trophy — could serve as a valuable lesson during this crucial period. Over the past three campaigns, Arsenal have come close but ultimately fallen short in their bid to secure the Premier League crown. Neville indicated that such setbacks may now provide the mental resilience required to navigate the closing stretch of fixtures successfully. According to him, the supporters must prepare themselves emotionally for a demanding run-in. He cautioned that the remaining weeks of the campaign will test both the team and its fanbase. “They need to reflect on the previous three seasons,” Neville stated. “They understand that it will require serious effort.” He further warned: “There are still 10 more weeks of discomfort ahead for Arsenal fans, whether they’re inside the stadium or watching from home during away matches.” The Premier League title contest often intensifies as the season approaches its conclusion, with psychological strength playing a decisive role. Arsenal’s ability to manage expectations and maintain consistency could determine whether they finally convert promise into silverware this time around. For deeper insights into how title races impact team performance, you can review analysis from reputable sources such as BBC Sport and Premier League.

Copa del Rey: FC Barcelona dealt major injury setback ahead of Atlético Madrid semi-final return leg

FC Barcelona have been handed a significant fitness blow prior to their decisive second-leg clash against Atlético Madrid in the Copa del Rey semi-finals. The Catalan side are already facing an uphill battle after falling 4-1 in the opening encounter, and their hopes of staging a dramatic comeback have now been complicated by the absence of experienced forward Robert Lewandowski. The striker has been ruled out of the return fixture after sustaining a fracture to his left eye socket. Official confirmation from Barcelona The development was confirmed by the club on Sunday in an official statement. According to the announcement, Lewandowski picked up the injury during Barcelona’s recent outing against Villarreal. Subsequent medical examinations revealed a break in his left eye socket, making him unavailable for the upcoming showdown against Atlético Madrid. As a result, the Polish international will not feature in the crucial semi-final second leg. Impact on Barcelona’s attacking options Although the 37-year-old has not been a regular starter throughout the current campaign, largely due to tactical decisions by head coach Hansi Flick, his absence still represents a setback. Flick has frequently deployed Ferran Torres in a central attacking role this season, limiting Lewandowski’s minutes on the pitch. However, the veteran striker reminded fans of his value by finding the net in Barcelona’s commanding 4-1 victory over Villarreal on Saturday. With Barcelona needing a significant turnaround to overturn the 4-1 deficit from the first leg, Lewandowski’s injury removes an experienced goal-scoring option at a critical moment in their Copa del Rey campaign.

Bruno Fernandes Breaks David Beckham Premier League Record for Manchester United

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has etched his name deeper into the club’s history books after surpassing a long-standing Premier League milestone previously held by former Red Devils icon David Beckham. The achievement followed Fernandes’ goal against Crystal Palace in Sunday’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford. His contribution proved decisive as United secured maximum points in front of their home supporters. Two crucial strikes from the Portuguese playmaker and Benjamin Sesko ensured that Michael Carrick’s team claimed all three points in the encounter. The result strengthened United’s standing as they continue their domestic campaign. According to data released by Opta Sports, Fernandes has now both scored and provided assists in 18 separate Premier League fixtures for Manchester United. That tally moves him beyond Beckham’s previous club record of 17 such matches in the competition. Only two United legends remain ahead of him in this particular category — Wayne Rooney, who leads with 35, and Ryan Giggs, who accumulated 22 during his illustrious spell at the club. With momentum firmly on his side, Fernandes will be aiming to extend his influential run when United take on Newcastle United next Wednesday in another key Premier League fixture.

Arsenal Set New Premier League Corner Records After 2-1 Victory Over Chelsea

Arsenal etched their name further into the record books on Sunday after securing a 2-1 triumph over Chelsea in the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium. The North London side claimed all three points on home soil courtesy of decisive strikes from William Saliba and Jurrien Timber, overpowering their London rivals in a fiercely contested encounter. Record-Breaking Performance From Set Pieces According to data published by OptaJoe, the victory marked the ninth occasion this league campaign in which Arsenal have netted a match-winning goal directly from a corner kick. That figure now stands as the highest ever recorded by a single club in one Premier League season. This achievement moves Mikel Arteta’s squad beyond the previous benchmark of eight such goals set by Manchester United during the 2012-13 campaign. Joint-Highest Corner Goal Tally in a Single Season Furthermore, Arsenal’s total of 16 goals scored from corner situations in the league this term equals the highest number managed by any side in one season. That tally matches previous records set by Oldham Athletic in 1992-93, West Bromwich Albion in 2016-17, as well as Arsenal themselves during the 2023-24 season. Such efficiency from dead-ball scenarios underlines the tactical emphasis placed on set-piece routines by Arteta and his technical staff, turning corners into a consistent attacking weapon. Early Advantage From Corners In addition, the win over Chelsea means Arsenal have taken a 1-0 lead through a corner kick on nine separate occasions in the Premier League this season. That number equals the record previously set by Southampton in the 1994-95 campaign. This consistent ability to strike first from set plays highlights both aerial dominance and well-rehearsed delivery strategies. What’s Next for Arsenal? Arsenal will now turn their attention to their upcoming league fixture against Brighton on Wednesday as they aim to maintain momentum in the title race. UCL: Mourinho Issues Strong Warning to Prestianni Over Alleged Vinicius Racism Incident

UEFA Champions League action has once again been overshadowed by controversy, as Benfica manager Jose Mourinho delivered a firm message to Gianluca Prestianni regarding the alleged racism incident involving Vinicius Jr.. The Benfica coach made it clear that Prestianni’s future at the club would be in serious jeopardy if he is found guilty of racially abusing the Real Madrid winger. Mourinho stressed that both he and the club uphold strict principles, and any violation of those standards would have severe consequences. The controversy began during the first leg of the Champions League knockout clash between Benfica and Real Madrid in Lisbon on February 17. Vinicius alleged that Prestianni directed racist remarks toward him during the heated encounter. Prestianni, 20, has categorically rejected the claims. Despite his denial, UEFA imposed a suspension that ruled him out of the return leg in Spain while investigations continue. European football’s governing body is still reviewing the matter to determine whether disciplinary action beyond the initial ban is necessary. Mourinho also faced backlash after suggesting that Vinicius’ goal celebration may have provoked sections of the crowd. However, the experienced tactician clarified his stance on Sunday, emphasizing zero tolerance for discriminatory behavior within his squad. “If my player fails to respect these principles — which are mine and Benfica’s — then that player’s career under a coach named Jose Mourinho and at a club called Benfica will be finished,” Mourinho stated firmly. The incident adds another chapter to the broader issue of racism in football, a problem that governing bodies, clubs, and players continue to confront across Europe’s elite competitions.

Ayatollah Khamenei’s Death: Gumi in Mourning, Says Deji Adeyanju

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has openly criticized controversial Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi following reports of the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader. Adeyanju alleged that Gumi, whom he labeled a sympathizer of extremist elements, is grieving over the Iranian leader’s passing. The 86-year-old Khamenei was reportedly killed on Saturday during coordinated airstrikes conducted by Israel and the United States. According to available details, the aerial assault formed part of a major military operation targeting strategic locations in the center of Tehran. Gumi’s Reaction Responding to the development, Sheikh Gumi described the late Iranian authority as “fortunate,” asserting that he passed away while engaged in what he termed jihad. Gumi maintained that Khamenei died in a struggle against those he accused of killing innocent women and children in Gaza and other regions. He further stated that the Iranian leader’s blood would inspire transformation within the Muslim community (ummah), emphasizing that Khamenei remained resolute in his stance for justice and did not retreat into underground shelters. Adeyanju’s Counter-Statement Reacting through a post on X (formerly Twitter), Adeyanju wrote that Gumi and others he referred to as terrorist sympathizers in Nigeria were mourning because, in his words, “the demon of Iran is gone.” He also questioned Iran’s military strength, arguing that the country projects toughness but appears vulnerable. Adeyanju pointed out that the United States had publicly declared its intention to strike Iran, yet the Iranian defense system allegedly failed to prevent the bombardment. Furthermore, he raised concerns about how Israel and the United States were able to access Iranian airspace with apparent ease, despite Iran’s repeated strong rhetoric on global issues. Adeyanju concluded by asking why it was seemingly effortless for both nations to eliminate what he described as Iran’s leading figure, and why Iranian air defenses did not successfully repel the attacks despite prior warnings.

FAAN Cashless Toll Enforcement at Lagos Airport Triggers Severe Traffic Gridlock

Motorists and air travellers experienced major disruption on Sunday after the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) commenced strict implementation of a cashless toll payment system at the access gate leading to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The sudden enforcement significantly slowed vehicular movement around the airport toll plaza, triggering extensive congestion that left hundreds stranded. Both outbound and inbound traffic to the domestic and international terminals were heavily affected, as vehicles queued for long periods while attempting to comply with the new electronic payment requirement. Speaking on the development, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, stated that the transition to a digital-only toll system was introduced to eliminate revenue leakages and strengthen internal financial accountability. According to him, the policy is part of broader reforms aimed at improving operational transparency across the aviation authority. The gridlock forced several travellers to abandon their cars and seek alternative transportation in order to avoid missing scheduled flights. Commercial motorcycle operators, despite existing airport access limitations, reportedly capitalised on the situation by increasing fares by as much as 200 percent. Eyewitnesses observed that motorists spent up to 20 minutes at the tollgate — a journey that would typically take less than sixty seconds. The delays created heightened frustration at what serves as one of the busiest entry points into the airport complex. Tension also flared between drivers and toll officials, particularly in cases involving unsuccessful electronic transactions and delayed payment confirmations. Some commuters accused FAAN of introducing the policy without adequate public sensitisation, arguing that clearer communication would have prevented confusion. One affected motorist, Adebayo Awojobi, described waiting in traffic for nearly an hour. He questioned how the situation might escalate during peak weekday operations and expressed concern that personnel on duty appeared overwhelmed by the surge in users attempting to obtain or load access cards. However, Agbebire rejected claims that the public was insufficiently informed. He maintained that the implementation aligns with the Federal Government’s ongoing push toward a fully digital economy, stressing that the objective is to reduce extortion, promote accountability, and enhance revenue generation for the authority. He further attributed part of the disruption to motorists who delayed compliance until enforcement began. According to him, adequate access cards had been made available ahead of time for intending users. “The access card is provided at no initial cost,” Agbebire explained, “but once loaded with either N2,000 or N1,000, a maintenance charge of N500 is deducted.” The situation underscores the operational challenges that can accompany sudden digital transitions in high-traffic public infrastructure hubs, particularly when large volumes of users attempt to adapt simultaneously.

Lagos Residents Lament Soaring Rent for Poor-Quality Housing

Residents across Lagos are contending with an extraordinary escalation in rental prices, as accommodation expenses throughout the metropolis continue to climb steeply despite declining living standards. In numerous districts, occupants now remit between ₦1.5 million and ₦2.5 million per annum for single rooms and self-contained units, frequently without access to essentials such as clean water, adequate sanitation, reliable electricity, or structured waste disposal systems. This situation has intensified the strain on low- and middle-income earners already burdened by inflationary trends, increasing transport fares, and stagnant income levels. For countless individuals, obtaining shelter—once regarded as a fundamental requirement—has evolved into a persistent battle characterised by insecurity, displacement, and financial fatigue. From mainland settlements to rapidly developing outskirts, accounts of abrupt rent increments, arbitrary levies, and worsening housing conditions have become widespread. Occupants allege that property owners consistently inflate rental charges while neglecting upkeep, forcing residents to cope with leaking ceilings, inefficient drainage, congested premises, and communal restrooms in densely inhabited zones. Disconnect Between Rental Costs and Living Standards Across Lagos, the residential crisis illustrates a significant disparity between pricing and habitability. In expanding corridors such as Ikorodu, Ajah, and sections of the mainland, accommodation rates have risen beyond the reach of the average wage earner. Single-room apartments, typically located within overcrowded compounds, now command fees previously associated with complete flats. Many lack foundational infrastructure, compelling occupants to purchase water externally, depend on shared conveniences, and endure irregular power distribution. In certain neighbourhoods, residents trek considerable distances to secure water, while waste and sewage accumulate due to ineffective environmental oversight. Despite these realities, landlords frequently implement rent adjustments without prior dialogue or infrastructural enhancement. Housing experts observe that the imbalance has deepened as demand continues to surpass supply, especially in areas experiencing limited new construction. Tenants report feeling confined—unable to negotiate improved conditions and equally challenged in sourcing alternatives compatible with their earnings. Residents Share Personal Experiences Speaking with DAILY POST, Mrs. Funke Olamide, a trader residing in Ikorodu, stated that her annual payment no longer aligns with humane living standards. She explained that she pays ₦900,000 yearly for a single room without private facilities, yet receives no corresponding value. The compound lacks running water, compelling daily purchases before business hours. During rainy periods, flooding and mosquito infestation worsen, while maintenance concerns remain unaddressed. Complaints, she added, are often met with threats of eviction. Another occupant, Adeyemi, a commercial driver, described the environment as humiliating. He noted that multiple tenants share one frequently damaged restroom, roofs leak during rainfall, and repair requests are dismissed as costly—despite annual rent increments. Frequent and Steep Rent Increases Tenants also highlight the scale and timing of increments. Many report surges ranging from 60 to 80 percent within a single year, typically announced abruptly upon lease expiration. These adjustments rarely coincide with renovations or structural improvements. According to renters, landlords operate with considerable dominance in a high-demand market where oversight appears insufficient. Consequently, tenants face limited choices: accept revised charges or vacate the premises. Tunde Babalola, a 51-year-old educator, disclosed that earning ₦120,000 monthly while paying ₦750,000 yearly for rent leaves minimal resources for healthcare, feeding, and family obligations. He remarked that much of his labour seemingly goes toward accommodation expenses alone. Funmilayo Bidemi, a single parent, described renewal periods as emotionally distressing. She stated that rent deadlines trigger anxiety, compelling her to seek loans or liquidate possessions. She added that her children experience indirect pressure as household spending is often reduced to meet rental obligations. Commercial Tenants Also Affected The strain extends beyond residential occupants. Shop proprietors and small-scale entrepreneurs across Lagos report that increasing lease fees are eroding already slim profit margins. From bustling commercial districts in Yaba to densely populated communities such as Mushin, traders recount sudden hikes without adequate notice or improvements to business premises. Sola Ibrahim, a tailor in Yaba, explained that her annual shop rent rose from ₦200,000 to ₦550,000 without justification. She noted that tenants endure the same economic pressures landlords cite when defending higher fees. Similarly, Michael Abiodun, a mobile accessories vendor, stated that only two weeks’ notice was given before a substantial increase. Requests for extended deadlines were rejected, leaving relocation as the sole alternative. Contributing Factors LMSINT MEDIA observed several drivers behind the persistent escalation. The discontinuation of fuel subsidy has heightened transportation and logistics expenses, influencing construction and maintenance costs. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, inflationary pressures continue to affect commodity pricing nationwide. Additionally, materials such as cement, reinforcement bars, roofing sheets, sand, and land have experienced sustained price growth in recent years. Urban development specialists attribute the crisis to population expansion, insufficient housing stock, and sluggish delivery of affordable residential projects. In high-demand zones, property owners retain leverage to determine pricing with limited resistance. Another contentious practice involves demanding one or two years’ rent upfront, widely criticised for deepening financial exposure among occupants. Although the Lagos State Government previously expressed opposition to compulsory multi-year advance payments, residents assert that the custom persists informally in various districts. Relocation as a Survival Strategy Mounting pressure has prompted many to consider migration to neighbouring Ogun State, where accommodation costs remain comparatively moderate. Blessing Nwankwo, a 25-year-old hairstylist, stated that the amount paid for a single room in Lagos could secure a two-bedroom apartment in Ogun State. While her clientele is concentrated in Lagos, she indicated that financial realities may compel relocation. Agada Peter, a technician, recently moved his family outside the city and now commutes daily to sustain employment. He described the arrangement as exhausting but economically necessary. Regulatory Concerns Authorities within the Lagos State Government have repeatedly cautioned against exploitative rental conduct and unlawful advance payment demands. However, tenants argue that enforcement mechanisms remain ineffective, allowing questionable practices to persist. Attempts to obtain updated clarification from officials regarding rent regulation policies were unsuccessful at the time this report was compiled.

UCL: “Too Inconsistent” – Mbappé Reacts Strongly After Real Madrid Loss to Benfica

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has openly criticized both himself and his teammates following their disappointing UEFA Champions League defeat to Benfica on Wednesday night. Speaking after the encounter, the French international admitted that Real Madrid failed to perform at the required level, describing the team’s display as unacceptably inconsistent. According to Mbappé, the Spanish giants did not show the discipline or stability expected from a side competing at the highest level of European football. Real Madrid were beaten 4–2 at home by Benfica, despite Mbappé scoring twice in the match. His two goals, however, were not enough to prevent defeat as the Portuguese club capitalized on Madrid’s defensive and tactical lapses throughout the game. Reflecting on the result, Mbappé did not shy away from responsibility, stressing that the outcome was deserved based on how the team played. “We deserved to lose. It was not a good performance. We are too inconsistent,” Mbappé said after the match, as quoted by respected football journalist Fabrizio Romano. The forward went further to emphasize that inconsistency is a major issue that must be addressed immediately if Real Madrid are to succeed at the elite level. “We can’t keep being this inconsistent. We can’t keep doing this day on, day off thing, it’s not what champions do.” Mbappé’s comments underline the frustration within the squad following the defeat, especially given the high expectations surrounding Real Madrid’s Champions League campaign. Attention will now turn to domestic action, where Mbappé will be hoping to inspire a positive response when Real Madrid face Rayo Vallecano in LaLiga this weekend, as the club looks to regain momentum after the European setback.

Police Invite Dee One for Routine Interview Over Viral Social Media Video

A popular social media figure and comedian, Aderombi Adedayo, widely known as Dee One and a former participant of the Big Brother Naija reality show, has revealed that he has been invited by the Nigeria Police Force for what has been described as a routine interview. The invitation was issued by the Force Intelligence Department (FID) of the Nigeria Police Force. Dee One made this information public through a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, where he openly read the contents of the official invitation letter addressed to him. According to the details contained in the letter, which was signed by the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Department, the interview forms part of an ongoing inquiry. The document specifically described the meeting as a fact-finding engagement, indicating that it is meant to gather information rather than serve as a formal accusation. The letter further instructed Dee One to present himself at the FID Annex Office in Lagos, and stated that the engagement would be handled through the OCCIOS team. Responding publicly to the development, Dee One stated that he believes the police invitation may be connected to a video he recently shared online. The video, according to him, generated widespread reactions and prompted numerous phone calls from different individuals offering varying opinions. He explained that reactions to the video have been mixed, with some people expressing support while others criticized his statements. Despite the differing viewpoints, Dee One maintained that he does not regret sharing the video and insisted that he acted within his rights. The comedian emphasized that if the police invitation is indeed related to the content of the video, he would not issue an apology. He described his comments as personal opinions expressed in his capacity as a Nigerian citizen. While explaining his position, Dee One referenced an incident that reportedly occurred in Turkey involving Nigeria’s President, which prompted him to share his thoughts publicly. He stated that his intention was to express his perspective as an ordinary citizen observing national issues. He also revealed that some individuals accused him of cyberbullying and questioned his decision to mention the President’s family or comment on matters related to the Presidency. However, he reiterated that expressing personal opinions should not be considered wrongdoing. In addressing the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, Dee One assured him and the Nigerian public that he would fully cooperate with the authorities. He confirmed that he plans to honour the invitation and report to the police office as scheduled on Monday. Dee One concluded by stating that he would continue to keep Nigerians informed about any new developments surrounding the invitation and the outcome of the interview.

Federal Government Approves ₦1 Trillion Kano Metropolitan Rail Project

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially granted approval for the development of a ₦1 trillion Metropolitan Rail Service in Kano State, marking one of the most significant urban transport investments in the state’s history. The large-scale infrastructure initiative is projected to modernize public transportation, reduce urban pressure, and stimulate long-term economic activity across the Kano metropolis. The approval was made public by Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Wednesday during his address to members of the Kano delegation who represented the state at the 2025 National Qur’anic Recitation Competition hosted in Borno State. The announcement drew attention to the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to supporting large transport projects in key urban centers. Details of the disclosure were later confirmed in an official statement released on the same day. The statement was signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who outlined the significance of the project and its expected impact on residents of the state. According to Governor Yusuf, the proposed metropolitan rail system is intended to deliver a modern, reliable, and cost-effective mass transit solution for Kano. The rail network will connect major districts within the metropolitan area, improve daily movement, and significantly reduce persistent traffic congestion that has long affected productivity and commuter safety. The governor further explained that the project reflects his administration’s recent political alignment with the Federal Government under the All Progressives Congress (APC). He stated that the realignment was driven by a strategic need to position Kano State to attract essential development-focused interventions capable of accelerating growth and improving public welfare. Describing the initiative as a landmark transport intervention, Governor Yusuf emphasized that the Kano Metropolitan Rail Service would enhance living standards, improve access to economic opportunities, and strengthen the city’s role as a strategic commercial and logistics center in northern Nigeria. He assured residents that the Kano State Government would collaborate closely with relevant federal ministries, departments, and agencies to guarantee efficient project execution, transparency throughout implementation, and optimal value for citizens. The administration, he said, remains focused on ensuring the rail service delivers measurable benefits across social and economic sectors. Governor Yusuf also conveyed appreciation to the Federal Government for approving the rail project, reiterating his administration’s readiness to support federal development programs through enabling policies, complementary infrastructure planning, and sustained intergovernmental cooperation aimed at long-term progress in Kano State.

Wike Threatens FCTA Workers Over Gate Blockade as Court Orders Strike Suspension

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a strong warning to workers under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) against blocking access to official premises. Wike made it clear that any staff member who attempts to obstruct the gates of government offices will be held personally responsible and face legal consequences. He stated that such actions would no longer be tolerated and that enforcement would begin immediately. Speaking to journalists in his office on Tuesday, the minister stressed that disciplinary measures would be applied to any worker who fails to report for duty. According to him, obedience to the law is not optional, and violations must attract consequences. He questioned why unlawful behavior should be ignored, emphasizing that allowing open disobedience would undermine order and authority. Wike explained that although workers were being given a brief opportunity to comply, that leniency would end the next day. The minister warned that starting from tomorrow, any employee who refuses to resume work would face strict sanctions. He further stated that anyone attempting to block office entrances would be singled out and used as an example to deter others, insisting that the rule of law must prevail. This development follows a ruling by the National Industrial Court of Nigeria in Abuja, which on Tuesday granted an interlocutory injunction sought by Wike and the FCT Administration. The court order directed workers operating under the Joint Union Action Committee to immediately suspend their ongoing strike action. Despite the court’s decision, some aggrieved workers who assembled on Tuesday maintained that although they were no longer officially on strike, they would not return to work. Instead, they indicated that they would remain at home. Staff members of the FCTA have continued to resist resumption of duties, even with the judicial directive instructing them to halt the industrial action. The situation highlights growing tension between the FCT Administration and its workforce over compliance with legal and administrative instructions.
