Demand for an Official Apology for the 1967 Massacre A major highlight of the visit was the demand for an official apology for the 1967 Asaba massacre, where innocent civilians were killed during the Nigerian Civil War. “Among other key issues, we reminded the President about the massacre and emphasized the need for an official acknowledgment and possible apology,” Prof. Azinge revealed. Federal Development Projects in Delta State The monarch also expressed gratitude for federal projects benefiting Delta State, particularly the construction of the access road to the Niger Bridge and the passage of a gas pipeline through Asaba and Awka. “These projects are significant for the growth of our region, and we appreciate the federal government’s efforts,” he noted. Tinubu’s Planned Visit to Asaba The visit also served as an appreciation and solidarity gesture, with the President expressing his commitment to visiting Asaba during his next trip to the South-South region. “He welcomed our visit and assured us that Asaba is on his itinerary for an upcoming South-South tour,” Prof. Azinge concluded.
