The Imo State Police Command has successfully apprehended three suspected kidnappers, including a 22-year-old female suspect, who allegedly conspired with accomplices to abduct a businessman, Mr. Sabinus Ibe, in Owerri. According to a statement released by DSP Henry Okoye, the Command’s spokesperson, the arrest was carried out by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit following a strategic investigation. Suspects Identified and Arrest Details The arrested individuals have been identified as Favour Dike (22), Ifeanyi Kingsley (30), and Wisdom Chikodi (31). The police detained them on March 18, 2025, after intensive surveillance and intelligence gathering. Reports indicate that the victim, Mr. Sabinus Ibe, was abducted on February 22, 2025, at about 8:00 PM in Egbu, Owerri, and was taken to an undisclosed location by the kidnappers. Ransom Payment and Financial Tracing The abductors demanded a ransom, which was eventually paid via a POS transaction. Further investigations revealed that the funds were deposited into a Moniepoint account (8213707568) registered to Favour Dike at the Timber and Allied Market, Owerri North LGA. Upon interrogation, Favour Dike admitted to receiving the ₦2 million ransom under instructions from Ifeanyi Kingsley, a trader at the same market. Kingsley, in turn, confessed that he provided his friend Wisdom Chikodi with the POS account details to facilitate the transaction. Weapons and Evidence Recovered Following the suspects’ confessions, the police tracked Wisdom Chikodi to a hotel in New Owerri, where he was arrested. He later led operatives to Old Township Stadium, Tetlow Road, where his gang members fled upon sighting law enforcement officers. During the operation, the police recovered: Police Commitment to Justice The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to eradicating crime in the state. He assured that all suspects would be charged in court upon completion of the investigation. Additionally, efforts are underway to arrest the remaining members of the syndicate.
