India Chooses Diplomatic Approach Amid US Tariff Hike

The Government of India has announced it has no intention of enforcing retaliatory tariffs in response to the United States’ recent 26% tariff on Indian exports, a move introduced under former President Donald Trump’s trade policy. According to a report by Reuters, an Indian government official disclosed that New Delhi is instead prioritizing continued trade negotiations with Washington, aiming for a mutually beneficial trade agreement. “We are engaged in meaningful discussions, and we believe this positions us well compared to other nations affected by the same tariffs,” said the official, who requested anonymity. India is reportedly analyzing a clause within the US’s latest “reciprocal” tariff policy. This clause provides relief for trade partners that “undertake significant measures to address non-reciprocal trade frameworks.” India Confident in Its Negotiation Edge Sources suggest that India’s swift response and diplomatic engagements give it a favorable standing compared to Asian counterparts such as China, Vietnam, and Indonesia, who have faced the brunt of US tariff escalations. For instance, China has already responded with a 34% retaliatory tariff on American goods, intensifying trade tensions. However, India’s approach appears more strategic, aiming to strengthen its trade relationship with the US rather than escalate the situation. An internal government source emphasized that India’s early and proactive discussions could spare it from the harsher implications seen by other export-driven economies. Global Reactions Vary While India, Indonesia, and Taiwan may sidestep reciprocal tariffs through diplomacy, the European Union could consider a more assertive stance, possibly setting the stage for broader geopolitical trade shifts. Nigeria Police Cautions Organizers to Cancel April 7 Protest Over National Police Day Observance

The Nigeria Police Force has issued a strong advisory to civil advocacy groups, especially the Take It Back Movement (TIB), urging them to reconsider and withdraw from staging a nationwide protest on April 7, 2025. According to a report by LMSINT MEDIA, the protest is being organized to challenge the alleged abuse of the Cybercrime Act and to raise concerns regarding the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. The National Coordinator of the TIB, Juwon Sanyaolu, previously revealed that the protest was scheduled to draw national attention to these pressing civic issues. However, in a public statement released on Sunday, Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, cautioned the protest planners, labeling the timing as “mischievous” and inappropriate. Adejobi emphasized that April 7 coincides with National Police Day, a date officially recognized by the Federal Government to celebrate the valor and dedication of officers of the Nigeria Police Force. “While citizens have a constitutional right to peaceful protest, this planned demonstration clashes with a nationally significant event that will host local and international dignitaries, including Foreign Inspectors-General and Diplomats,” Adejobi stated. He added that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, supports dialogue as a more productive approach. He encouraged civil groups to use legitimate governmental channels for expressing their demands rather than taking to the streets on such a symbolic day. “The Nigeria Police remains committed to upholding the law while respecting the rights of every citizen,” the statement concluded. Background on National Police Day National Police Day, celebrated annually, honors the contributions of Nigerian police personnel in safeguarding national peace and security. Events during the day include parades, award ceremonies, and policy discussions featuring top security experts and international observers. Learn more about National Police Day from Premium Times, a reputable national news outlet. Why This Matters The Take It Back Movement’s protest touches on sensitive national matters like the Cybercrime Act and political instability in Rivers State. However, scheduling such action during a nationally celebrated police event has sparked concerns about motives and timing. Tensions Rise as Osun APC Accuses Governor Adeleke of Undermining Court Verdict on LG Crisis

The political atmosphere in Osun State has grown increasingly volatile as the All Progressives Congress (APC) accuses Governor Ademola Adeleke of executive misconduct. The accusation follows the alleged refusal to comply with a Court of Appeal judgment that reinstated the APC’s elected local government chairmen and councillors. During a press briefing on April 6, 2025, at the Ileri-Oluwa Campaign Office in Osogbo, former Commissioner for Information, Sunday Akere, condemned the governor’s handling of the court ruling. Akere claimed that the state government is allegedly manipulating judicial processes and employing non-state operatives to stall the enforcement of the February 10 appellate court judgment. “In the last two months, Osun State has witnessed a surge in executive lawlessness and judicial manipulation,” Akere stated. According to him, Governor Adeleke’s address on February 16, where he publicly stated he could not guarantee the safety of reinstated APC chairmen, incited a wave of violence. The unrest reportedly led to the tragic deaths of seven individuals, including a political figure, Remi Abbas. Allegations of Sabotage and Intimidation Akere went on to allege that the government financially influenced the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to suspend operations in all 30 local councils and the Modakeke Area Office, disrupting governance at the grassroots level. He further accused the Adeleke administration of altering historical documentation by removing plaques from health centres commissioned by the previous administration and replacing them with new ones that carry the governor’s name. In what the APC describes as a premeditated strategy to regain control of the councils, the party revealed an alleged plan to obtain a mandamus order from an Osun State High Court in Ikirun on April 17. The court order, they claim, would be used to justify the re-entry of PDP chairmen into council secretariats, despite the appellate court’s directive. Judiciary, Police, and DSS Urged to Act The party has raised concerns over what it terms “kangaroo judgments” in Ilesa, designed to legitimize the PDP’s claims through judicial shortcuts. The APC has lodged a petition with the National Judicial Council (NJC), citing potential judicial bias and demanding accountability. Akere appealed to the judiciary to uphold its integrity and warned that allowing lower courts to countermand higher court rulings, especially those from the Court of Appeal, could threaten Nigeria’s democratic framework. “We urge the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the DSS, and the NSA to investigate and prevent the looming anarchy orchestrated by state actors under the guise of court enforcement,” Akere added. The APC insists that Governor Adeleke should take the case to the Supreme Court if unsatisfied with the Court of Appeal’s judgment, instead of creating political tension. For context on how executive interference can impact local government autonomy in Nigeria, read this comprehensive article on The Conversation, a respected academic resource. Governor Adeleke’s Response In a swift rebuttal, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the APC’s claims as politically motivated falsehoods. He clarified that the governor had not initiated any legal action and had instead instructed PDP chairmen to remain peaceful and law-abiding. Rasheed further stated that the APC’s position is a diversionary tactic to escape accountability for what he called their “unconstitutional occupation” of local government offices. He mentioned three ongoing lawsuits filed against the APC: one by the PDP’s ALGON-elected chairmen, another by NULGE, and a third by the All Peoples Party (APP), accusing the APC of contempt for ignoring court rulings. “The APC is merely trying to deflect from the legal implications of their actions,” Rasheed concluded. What This Means for Osun State The escalating local government conflict in Osun is a test of Nigeria’s judicial independence and political maturity. As both parties remain entrenched in legal and political confrontation, the need for lawful resolution and security stability becomes more urgent. Rhapsody of Realities April 6th 2025, AN UNCONDITIONAL INSTRUCTION

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee (Exodus 20:12). The Word of God provides clear instructions about the relationship between children and their parents. The apostle Paul in Ephesians 6:1-3 (AMPC) highlights the importance of children obeying and honouring their parents: “CHILDREN, OBEY your parents in the Lord [as His representatives], for this is just and right. Honour (esteem and value as precious) your father and your mother–this is the first commandment with a promise– That all may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth.” When you dishonour your parents, it affects your life negatively. Success may come, but it can be fleeting, with cycles of ups and downs, losses, and instability. It’s one of the reasons some people experience unexplainable instability, setbacks, and even premature death. So, do what the Word says; honour your parents or those who may be standing in that role over you. When you do, the result is clear: “It shall be well with you in life.” Honouring your parents isn’t just about your actions, but also about your attitude. The way you speak to them matters. You must treat them with utmost regard and respect. Furthermore, observe that God didn’t add any condition to you honouring your parents. He didn’t say, “Honour your father and mother if they treat you well”; no! Their status as your parents is enough qualification for them to be honoured. It makes no difference what issues or challenges they may have; they’re your parents, and you’re obligated to honour them. If your mother or father is unwell or living in poor conditions, do something about it; show care. Others may disregard them, but they’re your parents, not theirs. You might say, “My parents were very mean to me and didn’t give me the right love and care as a child; therefore, I don’t feel I should honour them.” Well, they’re still your parents, and you have a duty to respect and honour them regardless. You have to do what the Word says. No matter how much you speak in tongues or demonstrate spiritual fervour, it can’t replace this biblical principle. God’s Word is consistent, and honouring your parents is a divine instruction that brings blessings and ensures your journey in life is pleasant—upward and forward. Hallelujah! PRAYERDear Father, thank you for teaching me the importance of honouring my parents and those you’ve placed to watch over me in the Lord. I show them the respect and regard they deserve; thus, my path in life is one of success and victory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen. US Enforces Total Visa Ban on South Sudanese Citizens Over Repatriation Noncompliance

In a decisive immigration enforcement move, the United States government has announced the cancellation of all valid visas issued to South Sudanese passport holders. This drastic measure stems from South Sudan’s ongoing refusal to facilitate the return of its repatriated nationals, a stance that violates international repatriation norms. According to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, this action takes immediate effect and includes both revoking existing visas and halting the issuance of new ones. The move is part of the broader immigration strategy led by the Trump administration, aimed at strengthening domestic immigration laws and ensuring cooperation from foreign governments. “Every sovereign nation has a responsibility to accept the timely return of its citizens once deported from another country,” said Rubio in an official statement. “Due to South Sudan’s failure to uphold this standard, we are compelled to take corrective action by restricting visa access.” Rubio also emphasized that the restrictions could be lifted if South Sudan demonstrates full compliance with repatriation protocols. This policy shift arrives amid growing concern among African nations and the global community over South Sudan’s fragile political climate, which many fear could spiral back into violent conflict. So far, the South Sudanese embassy in Washington, D.C. has remained silent regarding the visa revocation announcement. For context, this is not the first instance of the United States using visa sanctions as a diplomatic tool to pressure countries into compliance. In a previous case, the US imposed similar sanctions on countries that delayed or denied the return of their citizens. You can read more about US-Africa diplomatic tensions on our blog. Victor Musa Nets Six Goals as Manchester United U18s Dominate Leeds United with 13-1 Victory

Manchester United’s Under-18 squad delivered a jaw-dropping performance on Saturday as forward Victor Musa scored an extraordinary six goals to lead the Red Devils to a 13-1 win over Leeds United in the U18 Premier League showdown held at Carrington. Following their disappointing FA Youth Cup exit against Aston Villa earlier this week, United’s young talents bounced back in electrifying fashion. Adam Lawrence’s side wasted no time asserting dominance, with Musa breaking the deadlock early in the match—even after missing his initial penalty attempt. Just minutes later, Musa doubled United’s lead after linking up brilliantly with Jaydan Ngwashi. The relentless striker then completed a lightning-fast hat-trick by the 14th minute, capitalizing on a rapid counter-attack. The 18-year-old wasn’t done yet. By the 25th minute, Musa had already netted five goals, showcasing impeccable finishing skills and elite movement. Shortly after, teammate Jim Thwaites added his name to the scoresheet with a quickfire hat-trick in just 11 minutes, further compounding the misery for the visiting side. Musa rounded off his stunning display with his sixth goal of the match, registering his second hat-trick of the day, all within the first 45 minutes. By halftime, Manchester United led 9-0. The second half saw additional goals from James Bailey, Daniel Armer, and JJ Gabriel to take the tally to 13. Leeds United managed a late consolation through Kenneth Mensah, but the result was long settled. Manchester United U18s now shift focus to their upcoming clash with Nottingham Forest next Saturday. Martin Keown Reacts to Controversial Penalty Awarded to Everton in Arsenal’s Premier League Draw

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has voiced his opinion regarding the controversial penalty incident during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Everton in their Premier League encounter on Saturday. The match saw Leandro Trossard score the opener for Arsenal at Goodison Park, but the momentum shifted early in the second half when Myles Lewis-Skelly was deemed to have fouled Jack Harrison inside the box. Referee awarded the penalty, which was confidently converted by Iliman Ndiaye, leveling the scoreline for the home side. Speaking on TNT Sports, Keown expressed skepticism about the legitimacy of the foul: “Initially, Myles Lewis-Skelly misjudged the flight of the ball while trying to shield it with his body. But I don’t believe the contact was sufficient to warrant a penalty. It felt like a soft call,” Keown said. He further added that Lewis-Skelly could have handled the situation better: “There are moments where a player must make a decisive clearance. This might be one of those times where he’ll reflect and realize he should’ve cleared the ball.” Despite his doubts, Keown admitted that once the on-field decision was made, overturning it via VAR was unlikely due to the standard of review applied to such decisions. Lolo 1 Breaks Silence on Sexual Assault by Industry Colleague

Renowned Nigerian on-air personality and actress Omotunde Adebowale-David, popularly known as Lolo 1, has come forward with a deeply emotional story of sexual assault involving a fellow professional in the media industry. In a recent episode of the podcast “Say My Piece”, which she co-hosts, Lolo 1 bravely disclosed that she was raped by a male colleague—an experience that left a lasting emotional and psychological impact. “I’ve rarely talked about this, and even now, I’m not ready to go into full details,” she said during the episode. “When I told my daughter recently, she held my hand and said, ‘Mummy, you’ve been through so much.’ And it hit me how much I’ve kept inside.” The actress revealed that the assault happened years ago, but the trauma resurfaces whenever she sees the perpetrator, who remains active in the Nigerian broadcasting scene. “It happened once, and it was someone I worked with. I still see him regularly, and every time I do, I go into this state of panic,” she added. “But speaking out now? People might question why I waited six years—especially now that he’s gaining recognition on TV.” Lolo 1 emphasized the complex emotional stages survivors of sexual violence often go through—including denial and self-blame. She highlighted how society often fails to support victims, especially when the abuser holds a prominent position. This revelation by Lolo 1 is part of a broader movement encouraging women in media to speak out and hold perpetrators accountable, regardless of their social or professional status. Raising Awareness and Ending the Stigma Lolo’s courage in sharing her story aligns with the global fight against sexual violence in the media industry. Experts have long emphasized the need for safe reporting channels and strong institutional support to protect victims and bring offenders to justice. A similar case was reported by The Guardian in a detailed article about the #MeToo movement spreading across Africa, showing how survivors are challenging silence and fear. Her disclosure also sheds light on how difficult it is for survivors to come forward, especially in professional environments where abusers are protected by reputation and power. Jemima Osunde Laments New Trend in Nollywood: “Actors Must Now Be Content Creators to Get Roles

Popular Nollywood actress, Jemima Osunde, has raised concerns over a growing trend in the Nigerian film industry, where actors are now required to become content creators before landing roles in movies. In a candid conversation with fellow actor Jammal Ibrahim, Osunde explained how filmmakers are beginning to prioritize social media popularity over pure acting talent. “It feels like actors are now being compelled to become social media entertainers just to secure roles,” Osunde shared. “If you’re not dancing or going viral online, you might not get cast. But that should never be part of the actor’s responsibility.” She stressed that the pressure to maintain a highly visible online persona is taking away from the core essence of being an actor. Social Media Fame Over Skill? Jammal Ibrahim echoed her sentiments, emphasizing the role of proper management in such situations. “I told my team I can’t dance,” Ibrahim said. “A good manager should work with your natural personality, not try to turn you into a TikTok star if that’s not who you are.” He added that actors shouldn’t feel obligated to participate in promotional gimmicks that don’t align with their authentic self, especially when it detracts from their on-screen performance. The Shift in Casting Culture This shift in casting culture raises important questions: Is social media influence now more valuable than acting expertise? And what does this mean for talented performers who prefer to stay off the grid? According to industry reports from The Guardian (source), this phenomenon is not unique to Nigeria. It reflects a global trend where the line between content creator and actor is increasingly blurred. Why This Matters for Upcoming Nigerian Actors The Nigerian movie industry has seen exponential growth, and with it, the expectations for actors to build digital presence have surged. For aspiring actors, this adds an extra layer of pressure—not only must they hone their craft, but they also need to develop a social media brand that appeals to both audiences and producers. If you’re interested in more conversations around trends in Nigerian entertainment, check out our article on how celebrity image affects Nollywood casting decisions — available now on LMSINT Media. Final Thoughts As social media becomes an unavoidable part of modern fame, it’s essential for the Nigerian film industry to find balance. While digital visibility can boost a film’s reach, it should not come at the expense of raw talent. Actors deserve to be chosen for their craft, not just their content. Nigeria’s total public debt has witnessed a substantial rise, hitting ₦144.67 trillion by the end of December 2024, according to the latest figures released by the Debt Management Office (DMO). This marks a 48.58% increase from the ₦97.34 trillion recorded in December 2023. On a year-to-year basis, the country’s debt escalated by ₦47.32 trillion, highlighting the growing fiscal challenges the nation faces. A closer quarterly analysis also revealed a 1.65% increase from ₦142.32 trillion reported in September 2024, confirming a persistent upward trend in Nigeria’s borrowing. External and Domestic Borrowing Fueling the Surge The surge is primarily attributed to increases in both external and domestic borrowing. External debt skyrocketed by 83.89%, reaching ₦70.29 trillion in December 2024 from ₦38.22 trillion in the same period of the previous year. Meanwhile, domestic debt saw a 25.77% increase, climbing to ₦74.38 trillion from ₦59.12 trillion recorded at the end of 2023. Experts Voice Concerns Over Nigeria’s Rising Debt Load Economic analysts and financial experts have expressed serious concerns about Nigeria’s growing debt profile. Dr. Muda Yusuf, the CEO of the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE), remarked that the government’s increasing dependence on borrowing is worrisome, particularly considering the nation’s ongoing infrastructural challenges. “The continuous debt accumulation is unsustainable, especially in the face of slow revenue growth and a significant infrastructure deficit,” Dr. Yusuf warned. Nationwide Demonstrations Challenge Trump’s Leadership and Economic Reforms

In a powerful show of public disapproval, tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets across Washington, DC, and various major cities throughout the United States on Saturday. The large-scale movement, part of an organized network of 1,200 coordinated protests, marks one of the most significant collective actions opposing former President Donald Trump and his political partner, tech magnate Elon Musk. Braving cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall, thousands of protesters gathered on the National Mall, surrounding the iconic Washington Monument. The event’s organizers projected a turnout exceeding 20,000 participants, with rallies scheduled in all 50 states, as well as locations in Canada and Mexico. According to the official protest coalition website, over 150 grassroots organizations and advocacy groups pledged their support for the demonstrations, amplifying the public’s dissatisfaction with the current political and economic climate. As reported by LMSINT MEDIA, the crowd continued to grow throughout the day, with many waving flags and holding signs expressing solidarity with international causes. Several attendees were seen carrying Ukrainian flags, while others donned Palestinian keffiyehs and displayed messages such as “Free Palestine.” Lawmakers and Citizens Speak Out Against Trump’s Economic Policies Prominent Democratic legislators took to the stage to denounce Trump’s controversial policies. Protester Wayne Hoffman, a retired financial advisor from West Cape May, New Jersey, voiced his concerns about the administration’s economic strategies. “The extensive use of tariffs is harmful,” Hoffman explained. “It’s directly impacting red-state farmers, causing job losses, and wiping out retirement accounts. Many Americans have seen their 401(k) savings reduced by tens of thousands of dollars.” The protests highlighted deepening public resistance to what many view as an overreach of presidential authority and a disregard for economic equity. Why This Movement Matters This event signifies more than a typical political protest—it’s a critical moment in American civic engagement. With increasing public unease over inflation, job security, foreign policy stances, and social justice, these nationwide gatherings send a unified message to policymakers and the global community.
