Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has asserted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stands no chance of securing re-election in Nigeria’s 2027 presidential polls. Speaking during a media chat shared on X (formerly Twitter), El-Rufai, now a prominent figure in the Social Democratic Party (SDP), stressed that anyone who believes Tinubu can win again is disconnected from the current political climate in Nigeria. According to El-Rufai, public confidence in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu has dwindled significantly, leaving little hope for their success in the next general election. This comes despite persistent assurances by Tinubu’s administration that the country’s economic hardships would soon ease. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, recently outlined the administration’s economic reforms on Channels Television, affirming that the government had taken solid steps to stabilize the economy. However, El-Rufai countered this optimism, stating plainly: “Anyone who thinks President Bola Tinubu can get re-elected is not living in Nigeria. There’s no way Tinubu can return to office.” He further stated that even the most disorganized opposition could defeat Tinubu, citing widespread dissatisfaction among Nigerians with the APC’s leadership and governance style. “There is no pathway for him,” El-Rufai remarked, insisting that citizens are too disillusioned for a repeat mandate. Commenting on the wave of defections to the ruling APC, El-Rufai dismissed their relevance, claiming the real focus of the SDP and its coalition is the electorate. “Those decamping are mainly opportunistic politicians seeking contracts, positions, or immunity,” he noted. He also suggested that many defectors are switching allegiance due to fears of investigation by agencies like the EFCC or ICPC, especially if they have a questionable past. El-Rufai emphasized that the SDP-led coalition is strategically focused on connecting with voters and offering a credible alternative to the ruling party in 2027. He added, “Our coalition believes the 2027 contest will be between Nigerians and the APC.” Once a major supporter of President Tinubu in the 2023 elections, El-Rufai is now firmly aligned with the SDP and is actively pushing a political movement to unseat the current administration. Alongside notable political figures like former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, El-Rufai is spearheading efforts to ensure that Tinubu is removed from office through the electoral process come 2027.
Two severely decomposed bodies have been discovered following the tragic flood incident that struck Mokwa town, located in the Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, on May 29, 2025. The catastrophic flood incident was triggered by relentless and heavy rainfall that resulted in the submergence of residential buildings and displaced numerous families, sweeping many victims away from their homes. Confirming the discovery, Abdullahi Baba Arah, who serves as the Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), stated on Thursday that the remains were located downstream of the Mokwa bridge — the same path the surging floodwater had followed during the downpour. According to Arah, “The remains were located after another round of heavy rainfall on Wednesday washed away sand dunes that had previously buried the bodies downstream of the bridge.” He elaborated that the torrential water flow on Wednesday cleared the previously deposited sand that had hidden the corpses, leading to the recovery of the two bodies, which were already decomposed beyond recognition due to prolonged exposure. In an earlier update, the Niger State Government disclosed that over 700 individuals are still unaccounted for, while 207 fatalities have been officially confirmed from the flood disaster.
Lionel Messi delivered a stunning free-kick goal that helped Inter Miami secure a 2-1 comeback win over FC Porto in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup clash held on Thursday. In their opening match, the MLS team settled for a goalless draw against Al Ahly, raising concerns about their tournament momentum. Those concerns deepened early in the second game when the Portuguese giants, FC Porto, took the lead. The breakthrough came in the 8th minute when Samuel Aghehowa successfully converted a penalty, putting Porto ahead. However, Inter Miami responded strongly after the interval. Just two minutes into the second half, Telasco Segovia equalized with a clinical strike that capped off a beautifully orchestrated team effort. The defining moment came 10 minutes later when Messi, at 37 years old, curled a sensational free-kick from just outside the box, securing the win for his team. The strike also marked Messi’s 50th goal for Inter Miami, underlining his ongoing impact and brilliance.
Super Eagles star striker Victor Osimhen has finally spoken out regarding ongoing transfer rumors linking him with a move away from Napoli this summer. Speaking during an exclusive conversation with popular Nigerian media personality Daddy Freeze, Osimhen disclosed that numerous clubs have expressed interest in securing his signature. However, the Nigerian international emphasized that he is currently prioritizing rest and reflection before making any career decisions. The prolific forward had a remarkable loan spell with Galatasaray last season, where he netted an impressive 37 goals across all competitions. At 26, Osimhen finished the season as top scorer in the Turkish Super Lig and also clinched the Goal of the Season award — further solidifying his reputation as one of Europe’s top strikers. Despite receiving a lucrative offer from Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia, Osimhen turned it down. Meanwhile, European giants including Chelsea, Juventus, and Liverpool are closely observing his situation, with Galatasaray reportedly keen on bringing him back on a permanent basis. “This is the usual scenario once the season wraps up and the transfer window opens,” Osimhen said during the interview. “Several clubs naturally show interest, but at the moment, I’m taking time off to unwind and enjoy my vacation.” He added: “While relaxing, I also reflect on my season with Galatasaray. I’ve been rewatching my goals, analyzing my errors, and celebrating the moments I got things right.”

He lauded the President’s directive to apprehend armed herdsmen responsible for violent attacks in Benue and across Nigeria. He thanked President Tinubu for his promise to collaborate with the state’s leadership in establishing enduring peace and security within the region. “We’re sincerely grateful for your resolve in tackling security issues, especially your command to the Chief of Defence Staff and the Inspector General of Police,” Alia noted. “Your decisive move to curb the threat of armed herders strengthens our confidence that the safety of our people and the return of displaced farmers to their land are priorities under your administration.” The governor extended heartfelt gratitude to Tinubu for personally visiting the state after the tragic incident at Yelwata town. He also acknowledged the unwavering support from fellow governors, particularly members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum led by Governor Hope Uzodinma, for standing by the state during its darkest hour. “Your joint actions reflect a shared resolve against violence and a strong dedication to the well-being of communities nationwide,” Alia added. Governor Alia affirmed that the people of Benue find comfort in the empathy and leadership demonstrated by the President, his colleagues, and other concerned Nigerians. The Nigerian leader gave this assurance during a one-day official visit to Kaduna State on Thursday. While commending the administration of Governor Uba Sani, President Tinubu described Kaduna as one of the most progressive and purposeful states in the country, applauding the governor’s performance. He said, “Kaduna’s achievements are proof of what can be realized when sub-national administrations are given the resources, confidence, and encouragement from the federal government to excel.” During his visit, the president also inaugurated the Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development, a state-of-the-art facility situated in Rigachikun, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Despite his wealth of experience, he only managed to feature in seven league matches during the 2024/2025 season. Although there has been no confirmation yet regarding his next move, it remains uncertain whether Akpeyi will hang up his gloves or continue his professional career with a new club. Prophet Abel Boma, the founder of ATB Foundation, has sent a bold message directed at those speaking against Judy Austin, the second wife of Yul Edochie. In a video recently shared on his Instagram page, the Port Harcourt-based prophet declared that God revealed to him a wave of hypocrisy aimed at Judy Austin. He advised people to focus on their personal lives instead of criticizing others, insisting that divine favor and forgiveness are not determined by human opinions. Prophet Boma strongly rebuked Judy’s critics, accusing many of them of being even more morally compromised. He pointed out that while publicly condemning Judy, some secretly destroy other people’s marriages by engaging in extramarital affairs. He said in his message: “The Lord is sending a powerful warning to Nigeria. To everyone judging Judy, Yul’s second wife, God says: Let her be. There is too much hypocrisy among us. God is saying, deal with your own issues and let the woman have peace. I, the Lord, decide who I bless and forgive. Your opinions carry no weight with Me. “Many of you have committed worse sins, yet you reject judgment for yourselves while attacking others. Work on your own marriage. Stop meddling in others’ relationships. “You gossip about other people’s marriages while destroying your own and even committing adultery with married people. God says: Do not judge anyone.” However, this prophetic declaration stirred controversy. A segment of loyal supporters of May Edochie, known as the “May Nation”, expressed displeasure. They flooded the prophet’s comment section, accusing him of misrepresenting God and questioned the relevance of his message in the face of global crises. Here are some of the online reactions:
Popular reality television personality, Phyna, has stirred online reactions after strongly criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to Yelwata community in Benue State. The community had recently suffered a tragic assault by alleged herdsmen, leading to the loss of more than 200 lives. During his visit, President Tinubu was seen meeting some of the alleged attack survivors receiving treatment at a hospital. However, Phyna expressed serious doubts over the legitimacy of the hospital visit. She raised concerns regarding the identity of the individuals Tinubu interacted with and condemned the red carpet rolled out for the President at the hospital. She further suggested that the pictures from the visit may have been digitally altered. Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) page, Phyna questioned the essence of the visit, emphasizing that all those affected by the attack had reportedly been killed and set ablaze — thereby leaving no victims for the President to meet in the hospital. Her tweet read: “There were no victims in Yelewata, they were all killed and burnt alive. Who are those in the hospital that the President went to visit standing on a red rug? “Why are you doing a photoshop to make us angrier? Nigeria has failed us.” Her statement ignited a wave of mixed responses across social media. While some netizens supported her courage to speak up, others criticized her for allegedly chasing clout and misrepresenting the reality of the tragic incident. Below are some of the reactions shared on X:
Popular Canadian music icon, Drake, has allegedly suffered a staggering loss exceeding $100 million from gambling activities within just 30 days. The globally recognized artist, famous for his hit song “One Dance”, recently took to his Instagram story to reveal the shocking figures. He posted a screenshot from the online betting platform Stake, indicating a total loss of $124,527,265 in one month. Alongside the screenshot, Drake commented:“Gotta share the other side of gambling… Losses are so fried right now. I hope I can post a big win for you all soon cause I’m the only one that has never a max these guys max once a week.” This isn’t the first time the rapper has encountered high-stake losses. Back in August 2024, Drake placed a $450,000 wager on Israel Adesanya, who was defeated by Dricus du Plessis during the UFC middleweight title match. More recently, in November 2024, he reportedly lost $355,000 betting on Mike Tyson in his match against Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which Tyson also lost. Drake’s continued interest in risky high-stakes betting has become a topic of public discussion, especially as the figures involved are staggering. His transparency about the losses might be seen by some as a way of discouraging reckless gambling, even as others question the sustainability of such patterns.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olorundare Jimoh, has confirmed that Pastor Paul Adefarasin, the Lead Pastor of House on the Rock Church, allegedly committed a legal offense. According to CP Jimoh, Pastor Adefarasin’s actions violated the law after he was captured pointing what has been identified as a stun gun at a social media content creator. The police commissioner made this declaration during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Thursday. In early June, a video made rounds online showing Pastor Adefarasin allegedly pointing a handgun-like device toward a content creator during a traffic incident. The clip quickly sparked a flood of reactions, with many on social media accusing the pastor of wielding a real firearm while being recorded by a TikTok influencer known for filming exotic and luxury vehicles in public. In response to the outrage, Pastor Adefarasin addressed his congregation, denying the possession of any firearm. He insisted that the object seen in the viral video was not a gun and denied aiming it at anyone deliberately. Following the controversy, the Ogun State Police Command invited Adefarasin for questioning. After an inquiry, he was released from custody. Speaking further on the matter, CP Jimoh clarified the legality surrounding such an act. He said: “An act becomes an offence only when it’s clearly defined by law. Under the Firearms Act, even if someone crafts a wooden object resembling a gun and uses it to intimidate or unlawfully obtain possessions, it can be classified as armed robbery.” Jimoh went on to stress that the mere act of pointing a stun gun at another person, especially in a manner that induces fear or intimidation, is considered a criminal offense.
