Nigeria Reiterates Commitment to Strengthen Economic Cooperation with the U.S. – Diplomatic Envoy The United States has strongly censured several Nigerian state governors over what it describes as excessive and irresponsible expenditure in the face of deepening economic woes across the nation. This development follows disturbing revelations that some governors are spending billions of naira on grandiose infrastructure—particularly government mansions and luxury office buildings—while widespread poverty, inflation, and failing public amenities plague many Nigerian communities. In a public statement issued via X (formerly Twitter) by the U.S. Mission in Nigeria, the American government voiced concerns that these financial choices are worsening inequality and eroding public confidence. According to the U.S. Mission, governors are pursuing lavish construction projects when they should be directing funds toward essential services like health, education, and social welfare. “While Nigerian citizens are being asked to endure economic suffering likened to labor pains, some governors are allocating billions for extravagant new state residences,” the U.S. Mission declared, referencing a comprehensive investigative article published by The Africa Report. The cited report unveiled how some Nigerian state governments are prioritizing luxury structures over critical developmental projects. These initiatives often serve no immediate public value and detract from urgent socioeconomic needs. “This alleged fiscal recklessness not only accelerates inequality but deeply undermines trust in governance,” the U.S. Mission emphasized in their social media post. Civil Organizations Raise Accountability Alarms In addition to U.S. concerns, local civic groups are also expressing outrage over this pattern of misappropriation. BudgIT Nigeria, a civic technology organization that promotes fiscal transparency and good governance, lamented that governors are neglecting foundational sectors such as education, public healthcare, and agriculture. Instead, they are commissioning state-of-the-art buildings that offer minimal value to the masses and are often left underutilized. Similarly, the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) condemned the ongoing misuse of public funds. The organization stressed that the real issue lies in a lack of accountability and misaligned priorities. According to CISLAC, many governors operate with a sense of impunity, bolstered by poor institutional oversight and a weak culture of citizen participation in the budgeting process. “There’s more money, less scrutiny, and no clearly defined priorities,” CISLAC stated bluntly, reinforcing calls for stronger public engagement and governance reform. Nigerians React to U.S. Mission’s Statement The U.S. Mission’s tweet sparked a wave of reactions from everyday Nigerians, many of whom welcomed the intervention. A user with the handle @incomingovernor, identified as Ikechukwu, applauded the message, tweeting: “@USinNigeria thanks for this. Please help Nigerians call out our corrupt leaders. They’re killing us with failed leadership.” Another user, @ibirogba2000 (Omo Ologo), commented: “We’ve been telling citizens to hold their state governors accountable, but everyone keeps targeting Abuja.” @Thomphil95 (Thomas Philip) added: “This is heartbreaking. Nigeria continues to suffer because we lack leaders who care.” @RealOlaudah (Olaudah Equiano®) remarked: “This exposes how deeply kleptocratic our government has become. This isn’t random; it aligns with Trump-era U.S. foreign policy toward Nigeria and has State Department clearance.” However, not all reactions were supportive. Some viewed the U.S. statement as intrusive and diplomatically inappropriate. @skaalbgroup (Mr. Sam…) argued: “Even though this write-up isn’t directly authored by the U.S. Mission, I expect Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, @YusufTuggar, to respond strongly. This is an overreach into Nigeria’s internal affairs.” Key Context to Note This controversy emerges shortly after Nigeria’s Federal Government challenged a U.S. travel advisory that discouraged American citizens from visiting parts of Nigeria due to safety concerns. Additionally, earlier this month, the U.S. government adjusted its visa policies for Nigerian nationals, tightening requirements for most non-immigrant and non-diplomatic categories. These measures form part of a broader strategic overhaul of U.S. immigration and national security protocols. Despite these tensions, Nigerian officials have reaffirmed the country’s desire to strengthen investment and trade relations with the United States, emphasizing shared goals in regional security, economic growth, and democratic governance.
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven (Luke 24:51). The Ascension of Jesus is the biggest event to ever happen in this world. Acts 1:9 gives us a detailed account of how it happened: “And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.” His disciples were looking at Him as He ascended. They were watching Him go up into the clouds. Jesus didn’t just suddenly vanish; His disciples were there, watching Him as He levitated. If you were there that day, how would you have described such an experience? You would have been so shocked; you might not have been able to speak for days. That’s exactly what happened to the disciples. What they saw was the proof of something Jesus had told them earlier in John 6. When He was preaching, some of His disciples were offended when He said, “…my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed” (John 6:55). His words were hard for many to accept, and as a result, many of His disciples stopped following Him. Jesus then asked the twelve disciples, “…Doth this offend you? What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?” (John 6:61-62). And there was no response. But eventually, right before their eyes, it happened. They saw those words come to pass. What they witnessed was too weighty for words. They had already been having difficulty convincing people of His resurrection. They were called liars for declaring Jesus was alive. And now, they had witnessed His ascension. It wasn’t like Elijah who was taken up by a whirlwind with a chariot of fire. This was different. The churches, Christians, and preachers haven’t emphasized the Ascension of Jesus enough. We often read about it and assume everyone understands it. But this was the biggest event that ever occurred on Earth. The resurrection is crucial because our salvation is based on it, but the Ascension is proof of something even more remarkable: His supreme authority, dominion, lordship and eternal reign. Blessed be God. PRAYERDear Father, I thank you for the magnificent ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ, which demonstrated His supreme authority, dominion, lordship and eternal reign. I rejoice that I am seated with Him in heavenly places, far above all principalities and powers. Thank you for the victory and authority I have in His Name. Amen. The traditional 9-to-5 office job has long defined modern work culture, shaping everything from our daily routines to urban infrastructure. But in the aftermath of a global pandemic, a digital revolution, and changing employee expectations, the foundations of office work are crumbling. The question today isn’t just whether remote work is here to stay — it’s what will become of the office itself. Could the future workplace transform into a hybrid environment or even evolve into a lifestyle-centered “experience zone”? Let’s explore the unfolding transformation of work, productivity, and the workplace. The Evolution: From Factory Floors to Cubicles to Cloud Historically, work was tied to physical locations. From the Industrial Revolution’s factory floors to the post-war boom’s office buildings, the workplace was a rigid, centralized hub. Employees showed up, clocked in, followed schedules, and clocked out. Productivity was measured in hours present. But the arrival of the internet and cloud technology disrupted that paradigm. Gradually, companies realized that many tasks could be completed outside traditional office spaces. The pandemic only accelerated what was already inevitable: remote work becoming mainstream. Why the 9-to-5 Is Dying Several trends are driving the rapid decline of the fixed office schedule: 1. Technology Enables Flexibility With tools like Zoom, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Notion, work can happen anywhere. Files are in the cloud. Meetings are virtual. Entire teams operate across continents, making location irrelevant. 2. Employees Want Work-Life Integration Millennials and Gen Z value purpose, freedom, and flexibility over rigid routines. The new workforce is rejecting the old “live to work” mantra and embracing “work to live.” They’re choosing environments that prioritize mental health, autonomy, and creativity. 3. Employers Are Chasing Talent and Cost Savings Organizations now understand that remote and hybrid models reduce overhead costs (think: office rent, utilities, supplies) while widening the talent pool. Companies like Shopify, Twitter, and Dropbox have embraced remote-first models. Even Apple and Google offer hybrid setups. From Desks to Destinations: Offices as ‘Experience Zones’ In this new work culture, the office isn’t dying — it’s evolving. Rather than being places where employees are required to be every day, they are becoming destinations that offer value beyond work. What Are Experience Zones? “Experience zones” refer to reimagined office environments designed to: Think of an office with: This shift means offices are no longer mandatory spaces for productivity but intentional spaces for culture-building. The Rise of the Hybrid Model The future isn’t fully remote — nor is it fully on-site. Instead, companies are adopting hybrid systems that balance flexibility with in-person collaboration. According to a report by McKinsey, 58% of Americans can now work from home at least once a week, and 35% have the option to work fully remotely. Hybrid models are emerging as the default for many industries, especially in tech, finance, and creative sectors. Challenges Ahead: What Needs to Change? As exciting as this transformation is, it doesn’t come without hurdles: 1. Culture Gaps With distributed teams, companies risk losing the shared culture that keeps people aligned. Experience zones must be intentional about reinforcing core values. 2. Digital Burnout Constant Zoom calls and blurred work-life boundaries are leading to remote fatigue. Experience zones need to help workers recharge and reconnect. 3. Equity and Inclusion Not all employees have access to comfortable remote environments. Offices must remain inclusive spaces for those who need them. A New Vision for Work We’re entering a world where results matter more than hours logged. Employees are asking: “Do I need to be in the office to do my best work?” Meanwhile, employers are asking: “How can we use our spaces to inspire innovation, loyalty, and community?” The answers lie in redesigning the workplace as a hub of experience, not obligation. A place where workers come not because they must, but because they’re excited to collaborate, ideate, and grow. The 9-to-5 may be dying — but work itself is being reborn. Conclusion: Embrace the Shift or Get Left Behind Businesses that cling to the old ways will lose talent, relevance, and agility. Meanwhile, those that reimagine the office as a human-centric experience zone will thrive in this new era. The companies that win will be those that design work — not just as a process, but as a powerful human experience.
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth…(Ecclesiastes 11:3). There’s something you need to understand about prayer and how certain types of prayers work. Some prayers must be accumulated before they start producing results. They must be built up. The Bible says, “If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth….” You don’t just pray and then leave off for two or three days before you pray again. No! Every day, you heap prayer upon prayer. Every day, you add some more. And then, you add some more, and some more, until you reach the climax where the results burst forth like a gusher, blowing the lid open. That’s when things start happening; it’s like a harvest of prayers. That harvest can continue for a long time. However, that doesn’t mean you stop praying during that time. No. There are always other things to pray about. This kind of prayer is deeply spiritual and involves much praying in the spirit. Every day, you’re filling up the cloud. Sometimes, the Spirit of God can lead you to fast for a certain number of days because He wants you to keep filling up your cloud. It’s not so much about staying away from food; that’s not what He’s getting at. Rather, it’s about focusing your attention on the Spirit and having the kind of meditation and prayer that conditions your spirit for the work He wants to do in you, for you or through you. So, learn to persevere in prayer as the Bible says: “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Keep storing up deposits of prayers in your prayer-cloud, and as the Word declares, “If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth.” CONFESSIONAs I pray consistently in the spirit, I’m filling up the clouds in anticipation of a harvest of answers to my prayers. My spirit is conditioned to know and walk in God’s perfect will, in Jesus’ Name. Amen. FURTHER STUDY1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJVPray without ceasing. Former Barcelona icon Rivaldo has expressed deep concern and disappointment over the recent controversy tied to the birthday party of Lamine Yamal, the club’s highly promising young footballer. Rivaldo shared his thoughts on the growing backlash over Yamal’s reported lavish 18th birthday celebration, which included hiring individuals with dwarfism as part of the event’s entertainment—an action that has sparked significant criticism across Spain and beyond. According to BBC News, a formal complaint was lodged by The Association of People with Achondroplasia and other Skeletal Dysplasias in Spain against the teenage football star. The association viewed the act as inappropriate and demeaning, further intensifying the public scrutiny surrounding the event. Amid widespread condemnation, Rivaldo—one of the most respected figures in Barcelona’s history—called for calm and encouraged Yamal to remain focused on his football career. Speaking in an interview published by Barça Universal, the retired Brazilian forward expressed that these types of rumors are not only disheartening but also a distraction for such a young athlete. “Hopefully, there won’t be more rumors like this because it’s upsetting, and honestly, very sad,” Rivaldo stated. He emphasized his desire to see Yamal concentrate on his performance, reminding him of how far he has come at such a young age. Rivaldo advised the teenager to reflect on his remarkable journey and the success he’s already achieved, urging him to be cautious moving forward to avoid similar controversies. Despite the backlash, Yamal continues to be one of the most talked-about young talents in football. At just 16 years old, he was instrumental in helping FC Barcelona secure a domestic treble and has become a core player for both the Spanish national team and his club. With many already projecting him as a top contender for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, the focus now shifts to how he navigates this period and responds through his performance on the pitch.
In a recent development from Liverpool FC’s pre-season activities, first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker has officially become the third squad member to exit their ongoing pre-season tour in Japan. The Brazilian international has reportedly traveled back home due to personal reasons, making him unavailable for the club’s final fixture of the tour. His absence was evident as he did not participate in the Reds’ open training session in Tokyo on Tuesday. Despite his temporary withdrawal, Alisson is expected to rejoin the team upon their return to the United Kingdom. This departure comes at a crucial phase of pre-season preparations, where match fitness and squad cohesion are pivotal for the upcoming campaign. Earlier in the week, Joe Gomez was the first to leave the camp following a complaint of Achilles discomfort. The English defender is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the club’s AXA Training Centre located in Merseyside. Soon after, Luis Diaz became the second exit from the squad after traveling to complete a £65.5 million transfer to Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich. This high-profile move signals a major change in Liverpool’s attacking lineup, with Diaz’s departure being one of the most talked-about transfers of the summer. The club’s pre-season journey has been marked by unexpected exits, and while fans will miss Alisson’s presence on the pitch, his quick return is anticipated as Jurgen Klopp continues to reshape the squad ahead of the 2025/2026 Premier League season.

A sorrowful tragedy unfolded in Zangon Maje community, located in Taura Local Government Area (LGA) of Jigawa State, where a boat transporting 17 individuals—majorly young girls—overturned in the middle of a river, leading to multiple casualties and an ongoing search and rescue effort. According to a statement released on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACSC) Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, the heartbreaking incident took place on Sunday. Reports confirmed that the ill-fated boat was conveying passengers from Digawa Village in Jahun LGA to Zangon Maje in Taura LGA when it capsized mid-river. Out of the 17 onboard, 16 were young girls between the ages of 10 and 13. The reason for their journey is yet to be officially stated, though they were believed to be returning from an errand or visitation. Rescue operations commenced immediately following the disaster. Seven of the girls were successfully pulled out of the river alive. However, four lifeless bodies were later recovered from the waters, and search operations are ongoing to locate the remaining five missing passengers. Authorities are yet to identify the precise cause of the incident. Investigations are currently in progress to determine the factors that led to the accident. The Jigawa State NSCDC Commandant, Bala Bawa Bodinga, conveyed his condolences and sorrow regarding the tragic loss of lives. “It’s heartbreaking to lose such promising young lives,” said Commandant Bodinga. “Our deepest sympathies go to the families of those who have passed. We will not rest until the missing individuals are found. Additionally, we are reviewing safety measures across our inland waterways to prevent future incidents of this nature.” The commandant also acknowledged the swift and courageous response from local volunteers and emergency responders, whose efforts were crucial in rescuing survivors and assisting with recovery operations.
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has firmly stated that no serving Nigerian governor is likely to challenge or resist the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the forthcoming 2027 general elections. This assertion was made by the Kaduna helmsman during the opening session of a two-day interactive event focused on strengthening government-citizen engagement. The programme was organized by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF) and held at the iconic Arewa House in Kaduna State. Speaking confidently to attendees, Governor Sani emphasized President Tinubu’s unique approach to leadership and federal-state collaboration, stating: “There is no record in Nigeria’s democratic history where any sitting president has shown this level of support and cooperation to state governors and sub-national governments as President Tinubu is doing today.” He highlighted how this active support from the presidency has created an enabling environment for state development, reinforcing unity and cooperation across the federation. “Given this unprecedented partnership,” Sani noted, “it is highly improbable that any state governor in the country will take a stance against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu when he seeks re-election in 2027.” Furthermore, Governor Sani pointed to a remarkable shift in the federal government’s approach to national security and regional peace, particularly in northern Nigeria. He disclosed that for the first time, the federal administration has taken concrete steps to directly engage non-state actors in the region. “This is a turning point in our history,” the governor remarked. “The federal government is now reaching out to non-state actors in the north, holding discussions to understand the situation on the ground and explore pathways to progress.” This engagement, he believes, signifies a renewed commitment to resolving long-standing issues and fostering peace in troubled regions through dialogue rather than confrontation. The session concluded with calls for deeper synergy between citizens and government stakeholders, reinforcing the importance of platforms like the SABMF interactive forum in promoting democratic governance and accountability.
In a compassionate effort to bring relief to victims of a violent herders’ attack, the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has committed a ₦1 billion donation through her foundation, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI). The donation aims to support displaced families in Benue State, particularly those affected by the devastating assault on Yelewata community, which claimed the lives of more than 100 individuals in June. During her sympathy visit to the Benue State Government House on Tuesday, the First Lady expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy and assured the victims and their families of the federal government’s commitment to restoring their dignity and livelihoods. She met with bereaved families, community leaders, and state officials, using the platform to reaffirm the RHI’s vision of providing practical support to Nigeria’s most vulnerable populations. Her mission was clear: to foster recovery, restore livelihoods, and renew hope. “On behalf of the governing council of the Renewed Hope Initiative, we are making a donation of ₦1 billion to support displaced families to regain stability, return to their sources of livelihood, and build better lives,” she declared during the meeting. The donation is intended to facilitate temporary shelter, food aid, medical attention, and long-term economic reintegration for the affected individuals and families. This gesture comes at a time when the state is still reeling from one of the deadliest communal conflicts in recent months. Her visit was not only symbolic but strategic—reinforcing national attention on the plight of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, and the urgent need for humanitarian and security reforms in areas vulnerable to recurring attacks. The intervention from the Office of the First Lady under the Renewed Hope Initiative follows a series of similar humanitarian projects aimed at empowering underserved communities, conflict victims, and widows across the country.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has once again reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering inclusive and balanced development across every region of Nigeria, stating that no part of the country will be sidelined in the execution of national development programs. This assurance was given during a two-day government-citizens engagement forum held in Kaduna State, hosted by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, aimed at facilitating direct dialogue between public office holders and Nigerian citizens. The president, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, conveyed that the session would highlight substantial statistical evidence and policy realities to dispel the perception that Northern Nigeria is being neglected under the current administration. Renewed Hope Agenda at Work According to President Tinubu, the federal government’s ongoing development efforts are firmly rooted in the Renewed Hope Agenda. He detailed key strategic interventions targeting economic stability, healthcare services, education reforms, national security, infrastructure growth, and most importantly, agricultural development and food security. Addressing the nation’s economic trajectory, the president noted that bold steps had been taken by his administration to restructure the economy, including the unification of Nigeria’s multiple exchange rates and the reorganization of national debt obligations, with the goal of achieving long-term economic resilience. Major National Infrastructure Projects Highlighted On the front of infrastructure and transportation, Tinubu revealed that substantial capital has been injected into modernizing Nigeria’s security architecture, upgrading both equipment and personnel capacity. He identified ongoing signature projects such as: These, he said, are strategic efforts to strengthen the country’s connectivity and logistics systems, as well as to support inclusive national development. Focus on Agriculture, Energy, and Transportation The president emphasized his administration’s core priorities, namely: On Fuel Subsidy Removal and Palliatives President Tinubu acknowledged the widespread impact of the fuel subsidy removal, calling it a difficult but essential reform that has saved the government trillions of naira. To cushion the short-term effects, the federal government, he said, has deployed various palliative measures through partnerships with state governments, financial support to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and the upgrading of public transport systems across the country.
In a recent address, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, revealed that the country has seen a significant decline in Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, and communal clashes, particularly in the northern regions. According to Ribadu, these improvements have occurred within the past two years under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, marking a sharp contrast with the previous leadership’s record. Ribadu made this declaration on Tuesday during a two-day dialogue session hosted by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna State. He addressed a gathering of northern stakeholders and leaders, emphasizing that the administration’s strategic security overhaul has yielded measurable results. The NSA provided specific data to underline the improvements. He noted that during the previous administration, Kaduna State alone recorded 1,192 deaths and over 3,348 abductions. In Benue State, the casualty figure surpassed 5,000 lives lost, showcasing how intense the conflict had become at the time. A founding figure of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ribadu attributed the recent gains to a coordinated and unified security strategy implemented across Nigeria. This strategy was rolled out under direct orders from President Tinubu, aiming to unify the various intelligence and security agencies for greater operational synergy. He disclosed that, as of May 2025, over 11,259 hostages have been rescued from criminal elements in the North-West region, thanks to large-scale military and intelligence operations. Additionally, numerous leaders of bandit gangs, along with many of their followers, have been neutralized by security personnel operating in Zamfara, Kaduna, and Katsina States. In his speech, Ribadu also acknowledged the proactive governance of Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, who launched a non-kinetic, peace-building strategy in volatile areas such as Southern Kaduna and Birnin Gwari. This softer, community-focused approach is seen as a complement to the federal government’s military interventions, helping to address the root causes of violence and foster local trust. Ribadu’s remarks come at a time when national and international observers are closely watching Nigeria’s internal security reforms, especially in regions that have historically been hotbeds of terrorism and intercommunal strife.
