In 1 John 3:4, the Apostle John writes, “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” But then, Paul in 1 Timothy 1:9 tells us, “Knowing this that the law is not made for a righteous man;” and we are the righteous. It then gives rise to the question, “As Christians, are we under any law at all?” Yes, we are, but it’s a different kind of law. It’s not the law of Moses. It’s not the law of sin and death. It’s the law of the Spirit of life. That’s what the Apostle James called the perfect law of liberty in James 1:25: “But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” That phrase “perfect law of liberty” is an interesting play of words. Law typically implies restriction, yet here it produces liberty. This law works inside us to cancel the restrictions or inhibitions from Satan. For example, when sickness attacks the body, it’s a corruption or an inhibition of the person’s health. But thanks be unto God, the Bible says the Lord Jesus Christ abolished death and brought life and immortality to light” (2 Timothy 1:10). Hallelujah! Being born again, you have eternal life, and eternal life doesn’t require healing. Therefore, it doesn’t matter what attacks your body; if you’d stir up the life of God in your spirit, your whole body will be vitalized.
