Price War Escalates: Depot Owners Struggle as Dangote Refinery Resumes Bulk Sales at ₦877/Litre

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has recommenced its full-scale operations and simultaneously hiked the gantry (ex-depot) price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS, or petrol) by about 7 percent, raising it from ₦820 to ₦877 per litre. Recent investigations suggest that oil marketers purchasing two million litres or more will still enjoy some relief due to favorable pricing. This new gantry rate undercuts many depot owners, who currently charge between ₦890 and ₦900 per litre. For instance, Pinnacle and Rainoil are pricing their supplies at ₦890 and ₦885 respectively; Optima and Matrix are holding steady at ₦880 and ₦890 per litre. Many filling stations are already pushing pump prices beyond ₦900, reflecting the widening gap between gantry and retail pricing. The Oil & Gas Service Providers Association of Nigeria (OGSPAN) President, Mazi Obasi, praised Dangote Refinery’s resilience in overcoming operational challenges and emphasized the refinery’s role in steering Nigeria toward energy independence. Impact on Depot Owners and Marketers Why Dangote Can Dictate Terms Challenges Ahead & Outlook

EPL: Four Key Manchester United Players Miss Training Ahead of Crucial Liverpool Clash

Manchester United’s preparation for their high-stakes Premier League clash against Liverpool this weekend has encountered a setback, as four of the club’s key players were missing from Thursday’s training session at Carrington. According to team reports, the absent players include club captain Bruno Fernandes, midfielder Casemiro, forward Matheus Cunha, and winger Amad Diallo. Their absence has sparked concern among fans and analysts, given the magnitude of the upcoming encounter against Jurgen Klopp’s side. Sources revealed that manager Ruben Amorim decided to grant several of his players extra rest days, particularly those who had recently returned from international duties. This move was reportedly intended to help them recover fully and maintain peak physical condition ahead of what is expected to be one of the most intense fixtures of the Premier League season. Manchester United have been struggling with consistency in recent weeks, and losing any of these four influential players could prove costly. Bruno Fernandes has been instrumental in dictating the team’s tempo and creating chances, while Casemiro remains the backbone of the midfield, known for his defensive prowess and leadership. Matheus Cunha’s attacking energy and Amad Diallo’s creativity on the wings have also been vital to United’s forward play. Should they fail to recover in time, Amorim may have to rely on younger talents or squad rotation options to fill the gaps. The club has yet to issue an official update on the players’ fitness status, but fans will be eagerly waiting for news as the fixture draws closer. The Liverpool vs. Manchester United match remains one of the most anticipated fixtures in English football — a rivalry steeped in history, pride, and passion. For United, the challenge will be to field a competitive lineup that can withstand Liverpool’s relentless attacking pressure while capitalizing on counterattacks. On the other hand, Amorim’s rotation decision suggests a long-term view of player welfare, as the season’s intensity continues to mount. Football analysts have praised Amorim’s balanced approach since joining Manchester United, emphasizing the importance of squad management, especially during congested fixture periods. His decision to give key players recovery time could prove to be a strategic move — one that pays off if the players return fully fit for the match. Meanwhile, Liverpool continues their training with full intensity, determined to secure maximum points at Anfield. The Reds are currently among the top contenders for the title, and their home advantage could be a crucial factor. Manchester United’s supporters are hopeful that Fernandes, Casemiro, Cunha, and Diallo will return to full fitness before the weekend showdown. The match is expected to draw millions of viewers worldwide, reinforcing the enduring appeal of the Manchester United vs Liverpool rivalry — a battle of pride, history, and supremacy in the Premier League.

Ventola Claims Lookman Faced Unfair Treatment: Promises Broken in Move to Inter Milan

Former Inter Milan forward Nicola Ventola has insisted that Ademola Lookman, Atalanta’s speedster, experienced unfair treatment during the recent transfer window. Ventola alleges that commitments made regarding Lookman’s potential transfer were not honored. Speaking on Viva el Futbol, as reported by FCInter1908, the retired striker expressed that the Nigerian international had been led to expect a move to Inter Milan. However, despite assurances, the deal did not materialize. Ventola believes the player was misled. The promises, he says, weren’t fulfilled, contributing to Lookman’s disappointment. Lookman, having represented Atalanta since 2022, submitted a formal transfer request after numerous months of perceived unmet agreements and what he described as mistreatment on a professional and personal level. He stated that both he and the club’s ownership had agreed it was time to part ways if a fair offer arrived. When such an offer did come—in his view one consistent with what had been discussed—Atalanta allegedly blocked the exit without providing clear reasons. Despite his frustrations, Lookman made it clear he holds fond memories of his time in Bergamo, respecting fans and giving full effort whenever called upon. Yet, the prolonged sense of betrayal prompted him to make his grievances public. Key Details Implications & Reactions Why This Matters This episode underscores larger issues in professional football, such as player rights, contractual transparency, and club-player trust. A promise in the transfer ecosystem is not just verbal—it impacts professional trajectory, mental well-being, and future opportunities. When assurances are made public or implicit, failure to honor them can erode loyalty and prompt formal disputes.

Imo Government Dismantles Syndicate Selling Illegal Revenue Tickets at State Borders

The Imo State Government has successfully uncovered and apprehended a criminal network that was allegedly engaged in the distribution and sale of unauthorized revenue tickets belonging to other states within Imo’s borders. The syndicate, which had been operating covertly, was dismantled following a well-coordinated operation initiated by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Monitoring and Compliance. According to reports, the illicit group specialized in producing and issuing fake revenue tickets from different states, exploiting unsuspecting motorists and traders at border entry points across Imo State. These unlawful activities had caused significant financial losses to the Imo State Government, diverting legitimate revenue meant for infrastructural development and public welfare programs. The operation, which was meticulously planned and executed by the monitoring team, was aimed at curbing the growing menace of illegal revenue collection across the state’s boundaries. Through intelligence gathering and surveillance, the task force identified key members of the syndicate and intercepted their operations along major border areas. Several unauthorized tickets were reportedly seized during the crackdown. Speaking on the successful raid, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Monitoring and Compliance reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining transparency, accountability, and due process in revenue generation. He emphasized that the government would not tolerate any form of illegal taxation or revenue extortion carried out under false pretenses. The adviser also warned individuals and organizations involved in similar illegal schemes to desist immediately or face the full wrath of the law. He encouraged citizens and transporters to ensure that all payments and levies are made only through official government channels to avoid being defrauded. This decisive action by the Imo State Government demonstrates a strong stance against corruption and economic sabotage within the state. According to the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Magnus Kangye, who made this revelation during a press briefing held in Abuja on Thursday, the arrest marks a significant step forward in the ongoing military campaign to restore peace and stability in Nigeria’s South-East region. Major General Kangye disclosed that the suspect, known as “Gentle,” had long been on the military’s wanted list for his alleged involvement in multiple terrorist operations and violent attacks within the area. He emphasized that the military has intensified its efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and separatist groups that have been destabilizing the region through violence and criminal activities. He further noted that the arrest of “Gentle” and his gang was the result of well-coordinated intelligence operations carried out by security forces in the affected states. 2027: Alex Otti Warns Those Planning to Rig Abia Gubernatorial Election to Write Their Wills

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has issued a stern warning to individuals or groups contemplating election rigging ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state. According to the governor, the outcome of the next gubernatorial poll in Abia will solely be determined by the will of God and the mandate of the people, not by manipulation or electoral malpractice. Governor Otti made this bold statement during the October edition of “Alex Otti Speaks to Abians”, held at the Government House in Umuahia on Thursday. While addressing the public, he emphasized that anyone with plans to rig the 2027 elections should reconsider their actions, advising such persons to first “write their wills” before attempting to undermine the people’s choice. He stressed that Abia has moved beyond the dark days of electoral fraud and manipulation, reiterating his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of democratic values. According to him, the era when powerful politicians determined electoral outcomes through illegal means is over. Governor Otti stated that the people of Abia now have the power and voice to decide their leaders through free and fair elections, noting that his government will resist any attempt to compromise the integrity of the electoral process. In his words, “The will of God and the mandate of the people will determine who becomes the next governor of Abia State. Anyone thinking of rigging should first go and write their will.” He further reminded political stakeholders that the state’s leadership has undergone a transformation that prioritizes good governance and public interest over personal ambition. Otti encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and defend their votes when the time comes, assuring that his administration will continue to uphold democratic values. This statement has sparked various reactions within the state’s political circles, as Governor Otti’s stance underscores his determination to protect the sanctity of the ballot box and ensure that the 2027 elections in Abia reflect the true wishes of the people. For the governor, the message is clear: Abia’s destiny will not be decided in secret meetings or through electoral fraud, but by the collective voice of its people under God’s guidance.

Uzodinma Canvases Constitutional Roles for Traditional Rulers

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has renewed the call for the constitutional recognition of traditional rulers in Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of their roles in ensuring community harmony, security, and national unity. According to the governor, giving legal backing to traditional institutions will not only strengthen the authority of these rulers but also enhance their capacity to perform their duties effectively in various communities across the country. Governor Uzodinma highlighted that the call for constitutional inclusion is not a matter of privilege but an essential necessity. He explained that traditional leaders have long been instrumental in maintaining peace, promoting cultural values, resolving disputes, and complementing government efforts at the grassroots level. Their contribution, he noted, has been crucial to the stability and unity of many local communities, which makes their formal recognition imperative. Speaking further, Uzodinma noted that traditional rulers play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between the government and the people, especially in rural areas where their influence remains deeply rooted. He expressed confidence that their inclusion in the Nigerian Constitution would empower them with clearer responsibilities and legal authority to participate in governance and security matters within their jurisdictions. The governor also appealed to the National Assembly and relevant constitutional review committees to consider the long-standing request for this recognition. According to him, many of the challenges facing local communities — such as insecurity, social unrest, and communal conflicts — could be better managed if traditional rulers are officially assigned constitutional responsibilities and supported by law. Uzodinma reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upholding traditional institutions in Imo State, describing them as the custodians of culture and agents of unity. He stressed that empowering traditional rulers constitutionally would promote cooperation between local authorities and the state government, leading to a more stable and inclusive governance system.

FCTA Demolishes 11 Duplexes in Dutse District Over Safety Violations

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has carried out the demolition of 11 duplexes in the Dutse District of Abuja, citing safety violations and non-compliance with approved development regulations. The affected buildings were reportedly constructed beneath high-tension power lines and along a natural water channel, posing significant danger to lives and properties in the area. According to the Director of Development Control, Mr. Muktar Galadima, who supervised the demolition exercise on Thursday, the developers had been served multiple notices by the department to halt the illegal construction. However, they failed to comply, prompting the FCTA to take decisive action to restore order and ensure public safety. Mr. Galadima emphasized that the FCTA’s Development Control Department remains committed to enforcing the Abuja Master Plan, adding that structures erected on restricted or hazardous sites would not be spared, regardless of their level of completion. He also warned developers against encroaching on public utilities and natural corridors such as power lines, road setbacks, and stream channels. The demolition exercise serves as a stern reminder to property developers and landowners within the Federal Capital Territory to adhere strictly to building regulations and obtain necessary approvals before commencing construction. Authorities further noted that the disregard for these laws contributes to flooding, environmental degradation, and potential electrocution hazards, which endanger the lives of residents. Residents of Dutse District were seen expressing mixed reactions to the demolition, with some supporting the government’s move as necessary for urban safety, while others called for more transparent communication between developers and regulatory agencies to prevent future occurrences. The FCTA reiterated that all illegal structures built in violation of approved plans or on reserved land would continue to face enforcement actions to preserve Abuja’s planned infrastructure and environmental integrity.

Amnesty International Urges Nigerian Government to Abolish Death Penalty

Amnesty International has once again emphasized the urgent need for both the Federal and State Governments of Nigeria to completely abolish the death penalty across the nation. This appeal was made during a stakeholders’ dialogue held in Abuja to commemorate the World Day Against Death Penalty, an event organized to raise awareness about the inhumane and irreversible nature of capital punishment. During the program, Mrs. Barbara Magaji, the Programmes Manager of Amnesty International Nigeria, called on Nigerian authorities to take decisive action toward ending the death penalty. She highlighted that the death penalty not only violates the right to life but also undermines human dignity. According to her, the irreversible consequences of wrongful convictions and the failure of fair trial standards make the abolition of the death penalty a critical human rights issue. The event, organized by Amnesty International in partnership with the French Embassy in Nigeria, served as a platform for dialogue among key stakeholders, including policymakers, legal experts, human rights defenders, and civil society organizations. Participants examined the current state of capital punishment in Nigeria, shared research findings, and discussed feasible policy alternatives to ensure justice reform that upholds international human rights standards. Mrs. Magaji reiterated Amnesty International’s commitment to advocating for justice and human rights globally. She encouraged Nigeria to follow the lead of countries that have either abolished the death penalty or placed a moratorium on its use. The discussion also emphasized that the death penalty has not proven to deter crime more effectively than other forms of punishment. Instead, it perpetuates cycles of violence and injustice, particularly in a justice system that often faces challenges such as corruption, lack of legal representation, and inadequate investigations. In her address, Mrs. Magaji urged the Nigerian government to strengthen rehabilitation and reformation systems rather than resorting to execution. She also appealed to the media and human rights institutions to amplify the conversation on the death penalty and its moral, social, and legal implications. Stakeholders at the event agreed that it is time for Nigeria to align its criminal justice system with global human rights principles by adopting alternative punishments that respect life and dignity. They called for a collective movement that includes government bodies, human rights organizations, and international partners to end capital punishment once and for all. Amnesty International’s campaign against the death penalty is part of its global effort to promote justice and equality under the law. The organization continues to encourage nations to choose life over death by implementing laws that promote fairness, compassion, and human rights.

Rhapsody of Realities October 16th 2025, THE LAW OF THE SPIRIT OF LIFE

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2). In 1 John 3:4, the Apostle John writes, “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” But then, Paul in 1 Timothy 1:9 tells us, “Knowing this that the law is not made for a righteous man;” and we are the righteous. It then gives rise to the question, “As Christians, are we under any law at all?” Yes, we are, but it’s a different kind of law. It’s not the law of Moses. It’s not the law of sin and death. It’s the law of the Spirit of life. That’s what the Apostle James called the perfect law of liberty in James 1:25: “But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” That phrase “perfect law of liberty” is an interesting play of words. Law typically implies restriction, yet here it produces liberty. This law works inside us to cancel the restrictions or inhibitions from Satan. For example, when sickness attacks the body, it’s a corruption or an inhibition of the person’s health. But thanks be unto God, the Bible says the Lord Jesus Christ abolished death and brought life and immortality to light” (2 Timothy 1:10). Hallelujah! Being born again, you have eternal life, and eternal life doesn’t require healing. Therefore, it doesn’t matter what attacks your body; if you’d stir up the life of God in your spirit, your whole body will be vitalized. The Bible says, “If the Spirit of Him that raised up Christ from the dead lives in you, He’ll vitalize your body” (Romans 8:11). The Holy Spirit in you is life-generating. Whereas everything in the natural world degenerates, life works in you and in everything that’s connected to you because you’re in the realm of life. You’ve passed from death to life (John 5:24). Hallelujah! PRAYERDear Father, thank you for the perfect law of liberty by which I live and function. I walk in the liberty of the Spirit, free from every limitation and empowered to execute your will. I declare that your purpose is fulfilled in and through me, and I bring forth your righteousness in all I do, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
