Atiku Abubakar’s PDP Exit Has No Negative Impact on Us – Says Niger PDP Chairman, Tanko Beji

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State, Tanko Beji, has dismissed concerns surrounding the departure of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the party. According to Beji, Atiku’s resignation has not created any void within the party’s structure or operations.

Addressing journalists in Minna, the Niger PDP Chairman confidently stated that the party remains stable and forward-moving despite Atiku’s withdrawal. He emphasized that the exit of one individual often paves the way for fresh membership growth and increased participation.

Beji asserted,

“Atiku’s decision to leave is ultimately beneficial for both him and the PDP. Historically, whenever one person exits, five new members join. It’s a cycle that strengthens us, not weakens us. We genuinely wish him success in his future pursuits, just as he extended his good wishes to us.”

He reminded the press that Atiku’s engagement with the PDP has been intermittent.

“Atiku joined us, left for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and then returned. Yet, despite his movements, the PDP remained intact. Now that he’s leaving again, we remain unshaken.”

Beji added that political parties thrive on goodwill and strategic vision.

“If he believes that leaving PDP is his surest path to winning the presidency, time will tell. We’ll watch how events unfold.”

Niger PDP Congress Scheduled for September 2025

Tanko Beji further revealed that the party is making preparations for its State Working Committee (SWC) congress, scheduled for September 2025. He confirmed that he would not be seeking re-election, having completed his constitutionally permitted tenure.

“By September 2025, the PDP in Niger State will elect new SWC members. As stipulated by the party constitution, I have served my term and will not be contesting again,” he stated.

Administrative Secretary Dumps PDP for APC

In related developments, the Administrative Secretary of the PDP in Niger State, Jibrin Akwanu, has officially resigned and registered with the All Progressives Congress (APC). When queried by journalists on his decision, Akwanu metaphorically described the PDP as

“a sinking and dilapidated ship.”

His departure marks yet another instance of political realignment in the state’s political landscape, further heating up preparations towards the 2027 general elections.
