COAS Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede Engages Battalion Commanders at Strategic Workshop
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has called on Battalion Commanders of the Nigerian Army (NA) to proactively address emerging security threats across the country by demonstrating exemplary leadership and commitment in commanding their troops.
During a strategic engagement in Ibadan, the COAS issued this directive while addressing Battalion Commanders participating in the First Commanding Officers’ Workshop of 2025, held at the Headquarters 2 Division Nigerian Army (NA). The workshop served as a platform to enhance military leadership and tactical operations.
COAS Oluyede’s Address: Leadership, Accountability, and Tactical Excellence
As part of his operational assessment tour, General Oluyede emphasized that Battalion Commanders play a crucial role in bridging operational and tactical command structures. He underscored the need for officers to uphold key leadership qualities such as accountability, responsibility, and moral courage in both combat and peacetime operations.
He urged the commanders to intensify their efforts in countering security threats within their jurisdictions and reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the Nigerian Army through strategic leadership initiatives. The workshop’s theme, “Enhancing Tactical Level Command and Leadership Within a Joint Environment,” aligns with his vision to modernize and strengthen the army’s operational efficiency.
Recognition and Appreciation for Military Leadership and Support
The COAS commended Major General Sadiq Ndalolo, the Chief of Training (Army), and his team for organizing the capacity development initiative for Battalion Commanders. Additionally, he extended his appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his continued support in advancing the Nigerian Army’s transformation.
Major General Obinna Onubogu, the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, reiterated that the workshop was aimed at reinforcing Battalion Commanders’ commitment to the COAS’ vision of building a highly motivated and combat-ready army. He highlighted that the training would provide commanders with improved tactical approaches, strategic planning techniques, and enhanced leadership skills for administrative and operational success across various theatres of engagement.
COAS Addresses Troops, Unveils New Welfare Initiatives
During his visit, General Oluyede addressed the troops at the Garrison Parade Ground, commending their unwavering dedication to tackling national security challenges. He urged them to maintain professionalism and discipline in their duties.
Highlighting his commitment to soldiers’ welfare, the COAS outlined ongoing initiatives, including the provision of combat kits, uniforms, enhanced residential and office accommodations, access to soft loans, increased Ration Cash Allowance (RCA), and affordable housing schemes to support troops during and after service.
Commissioning of New Military Facilities
In furthering welfare improvements, the COAS inaugurated key projects within the 2 Division, including the Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricants (POL) Station at Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment and a Military Police Holding Facility at Mokola Barracks. Additionally, he approved the immediate renovation of the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess at Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment and the 81 Battalion Officers’ Mess at Mokola.
As part of his tour, General Oluyede also inspected ongoing rehabilitation projects for soldiers’ quarters in the cantonments, reinforcing his commitment to ensuring better living and working conditions for Nigerian troops.
