Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis has once again shattered his own world record, clearing an incredible 6.27m at the All Star Pole Vault event in Clermont-Ferrand, France.
Duplantis Sets a New Standard in Pole Vaulting
On February 28, 2025, Olympic gold medalist Armand Duplantis rewrote history by surpassing his previous world record, soaring over 6.27 meters at the International Indoor Athletics Meeting in Clermont-Ferrand. The Swedish champion had already secured his victory at 6.07m before attempting the groundbreaking leap.
With a perfectly executed run-up and immense focus, Duplantis cleared the bar on his first attempt, further cementing his dominance in the sport. “I just felt really good. I came here to do it, and everything fell into place,” he said after his historic performance.
A Legacy of Breaking Records
This latest achievement marks the 11th time Duplantis has broken the pole vault world record since first claiming it with a jump of 6.16m in February 2020. His previous best was 6.26m, achieved at a Diamond League event in Chorzów, Poland, in August 2024.
Friday’s performance was not just about athletics—Duplantis also had his newly released song, Bop, playing in the background as he took on the record-breaking attempt. “It was exactly as I imagined in my head. I rushed the song out just in time for this event, and it felt great hearing it while jumping,” he said.
A Rivalry and a Stunning Performance
In an intense competition, Greek pole vaulter Emmanouil Karalis, an Olympic bronze medalist, also cleared 6.02m but withdrew due to cramps, opting not to risk further attempts. This left Duplantis to dominate, clearing 6.07m before challenging himself to the historic 6.27m leap.
Why Clermont-Ferrand?
The Swedish-American athlete has a history of success in Clermont-Ferrand, having previously set the 6.22m record at the same venue in 2023. Explaining his decision to compete here instead of the European Indoor Championships, Duplantis shared, “I just love it here. The atmosphere is amazing, and I always perform well.”
What’s Next for Duplantis?
Following this record-breaking feat, Duplantis will compete again on March 13 in Uppsala, Sweden, at an event he is organizing, before heading to the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, from March 21-23.
When asked if he believes he can break the 6.30m barrier, he confidently hinted, “Maybe 28, 29”, leaving fans eagerly anticipating his next attempt at making history.
