Brazilian winger Antony has publicly acknowledged the current turbulent phase at Manchester United under manager Ruben Amorim, expressing both respect and support for the Portuguese tactician.
While speaking with ESPN, Antony emphasized that his time with Amorim was brief but impactful. He highlighted the coach’s intelligence and leadership qualities, wishing him success despite the challenges faced at Old Trafford.
“Although I only worked with Amorim for a short time, I saw firsthand that he’s an intelligent and capable coach,” said Antony. “Manchester United are facing a tough period, but I believe he can navigate through it. I had a positive relationship with him, but I needed a new experience. I genuinely wish him all the best.”
Antony, who joined Manchester United from Ajax in a high-profile £85 million transfer in 2022, struggled to consistently feature in Amorim’s squad. His lack of form led to a loan move to La Liga side Real Betis, where he’s currently enjoying a strong run of performances.
According to BBC Sport, the 24-year-old has found new life at Betis, tallying four goals and four assists in just 12 appearances this season. The club captain Isco even joked recently that Betis may need to organize a crowdfunding campaign to sign Antony permanently from United.
This resurgence in Spain has led many fans and pundits to believe Antony could either reignite his Premier League career or secure a long-term stay in La Liga.
