Popular international boxing icon Anthony Joshua was reportedly involved in a road traffic accident on Monday in Makun, Ogun State, causing serious concern among fans and residents in the area.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the accident happened just before Danco Filling Station in Makun, close to the Sagamu Interchange, on the Ibadan-bound side of the expressway. This particular axis of the road is often busy, especially during peak travel hours, which may have contributed to the severity of the incident.
Reports further revealed that Anthony Joshua sustained only minor injuries in the collision. However, the incident tragically resulted in the death of two individuals at the scene, highlighting the devastating impact of road accidents and the importance of traffic safety on major highways.
Meanwhile, the incident was officially acknowledged by the Ogun State Police Command, with the spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirming that the accident did indeed occur. Authorities are expected to carry out further investigations to determine the exact factors that led to the collision and to provide more updates as they become available.
The development has sparked widespread reactions, especially given Anthony Joshua’s global status in the boxing world, while also drawing renewed attention to road safety concerns along Nigeria’s major expressways.
