The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has set a deadline of May 26 to finalize its search for a new head coach, with Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti still the top candidate.
As reported by ESPN, the CBF remains patient and has extended its timeline, opting to wait until the outcome of Real Madrid’s La Liga title campaign is clear. Currently, Real Madrid trails Barcelona by four points, with five fixtures remaining in the league.
A decisive encounter between the two La Liga giants is scheduled for May 11, when another El Clásico showdown will unfold. This clash could play a critical role in determining the fate of the championship.
However, there remains an unresolved impasse between Ancelotti and Real Madrid concerning the terms and timing of his potential exit. These internal negotiations must be concluded before Ancelotti can officially take up the Brazil national team managerial position.
The urgency from CBF stems from the need to announce Brazil’s squad on May 26, ahead of crucial World Cup qualifying matches in June against Ecuador and Paraguay. While Ancelotti was previously thought to be on the verge of accepting the role, complications surrounding financial terms related to his departure from Madrid have delayed finalization.
Real Madrid’s final game of the La Liga season, against Real Sociedad, is expected to take place at the Santiago Bernabéu on either May 24 or May 25, which closely aligns with the deadline set by the CBF.
