The Labour Party (LP) has officially extended its registration and revalidation process ahead of the highly anticipated Anambra governorship election. This decision was approved by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to allow for broader participation and inclusivity.

Labour Party Extends Registration Deadline

According to a statement released by the party’s spokesperson, Obiorah Ifoh, the deadline for registration and validation of party membership has been extended to May 2025. This extension aims to accommodate more supporters and ensure a transparent democratic process.

Additionally, LP has rescheduled its congresses across wards, local governments, and states, which will now take place between June and July 2025. This timeline adjustment is designed to facilitate a structured and credible candidate selection process.

Labour Party Reaffirms Commitment to Free and Fair Primaries

The party has reiterated its dedication to a transparent and credible primary election in Anambra State. LP emphasized that a fair electoral process is essential for the advancement of democracy in Nigeria.

Speaking at an NWC meeting in Abuja, the Labour Party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, addressed allegations suggesting that the party was collaborating with other political parties to undermine its own members. Abure firmly dismissed these claims, reaffirming the party’s independence and ideological integrity.

Labour Party Stands Firm on Its Independence

Abure emphasized that LP remains one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing political parties and has maintained its identity and ideology since its inception.

He stated, “I want to reassure our members in Anambra State that, as always, our primaries and congresses will be conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner. There have been unfounded rumors that Labour Party is working for another political party. Let me clarify that LP is completely independent and not aligned with any other party.”

Abure further asserted that the Labour Party’s philosophy, programs, and values are distinct and cannot be compromised.

Conclusion

With the registration and validation period extended, LP aims to strengthen its internal democratic structures ahead of the Anambra governorship election. Party members and aspirants are encouraged to take advantage of this extension to participate in the forthcoming congresses and primaries.
