Akon’s Wife Tomeka Seeks Divorce Just Days Before Their 29th Wedding Anniversary

Tomeka Thiam, the longtime wife of world-renowned Senegalese-American artist Akon, has officially filed for divorce, only a few days before what would have been their 29th wedding anniversary.

According to court filings submitted on Thursday, September 11, 2025, in Fulton County, Georgia, Tomeka is seeking the dissolution of their marriage. In her petition, she is requesting joint legal custody of their child, alongside visitation rights for Akon.

In addition to custody arrangements, Tomeka has also asked the court for spousal support. Interestingly, she has urged the court to deny Akon any claims for spousal support from her.

The grounds for divorce, as stated in the documents, are based on irreconcilable differences, making it clear that their marriage has reached a point beyond reconciliation.

Tomeka Thiam and Akon were married in September 1996. Throughout their nearly three-decade union, the couple has shared many moments together and are parents to a 17-year-old daughter.
