Prominent activist, Aisha Yesufu, has publicly urged political commentator Deji Adeyanju to provide Nigerians with tangible evidence supporting his repeated allegations against Peter Obi, one of the top contenders for the 2027 presidential elections.

For several weeks, Adeyanju has openly described Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer, as “a fraud.” He further accused Obi of being a manipulator and religious bigot, insisting that he possesses verifiable proof to back his claims. Many political observers suspect that Adeyanju’s attacks may allegedly be influenced by interests within the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

In response to these accusations, Peter Obi has already taken legal action, dragging Deji Adeyanju to court to demand evidence of the purported fraudulent activities being circulated against him.

Aisha Yesufu, who has been a strong and consistent supporter of Peter Obi, emphasized that there was no need for a media war or unnecessary verbal exchanges. Instead, she stressed that the court of law is the right place for Adeyanju to present his so-called evidence.

The outspoken activist, widely recognized for her role in the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) movement, said the case would serve as a defining moment not only for her but also for millions of Nigerians who have continued to rally behind Obi. According to her, the trial would determine whether their loyalty to the former presidential candidate should continue or come to an end.

On her official X (formerly Twitter) account, Yesufu wrote:

“Barrister Deji Adeyanju @adeyanjudeji has repeatedly claimed that he has evidence proving Mr. Peter Obi @PeterObi is a fraud, and that Obi should sue him. This is a lawyer speaking! As a supporter of Mr. Peter Obi, I want to see the evidence he claims to have. I would never support anyone proven to be fraudulent. This case will provide me and millions of Nigerians the opportunity to access the facts and then decide if our support for Mr. Obi should continue or be withdrawn.”

Yesufu further noted that Obi’s decision to approach the court is the right and civil thing to do, particularly when defamatory allegations are coming from a legal practitioner.

She contrasted Obi’s approach with that of authoritarian leaders who use state machinery to silence critics, explaining that had Obi ordered Adeyanju’s arrest through state power, she herself would have been at the forefront of a #FreeDejiAdeyanju campaign.

Concluding her remarks, she said:

“For now, the matter should be clear. #LetsHaveTheEvidence!”
