Air Peace Airlines has officially announced the resumption of flight operations, set to begin on Friday, following the suspension of the strike action by workers of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMeT).
The announcement was made in a press statement issued late Thursday by Ejike Ndiulo, Head of Corporate Communications at Air Peace, in Lagos. He acknowledged the patience and understanding of customers and the general public during the disruption caused by the strike.
“Your resilience and trust in our brand mean everything to us,” Ndiulo stated.
The airline extended its profound appreciation to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN), for his swift and effective intervention in resolving the dispute.
Ndiulo emphasized that Keyamo’s leadership played a key role in restoring stability to the Nigerian aviation sector. According to him, the minister’s direct engagement with stakeholders, transparent negotiations, and unwavering focus on progress helped to bring an end to the strike in record time.
“The Minister’s actions highlight a broader commitment to a safer, more efficient, and investor-friendly aviation industry,” Ndiulo added.
He further reassured the public of Air Peace’s commitment to offering safe, reliable, and world-class air travel services, reaffirming the airline’s core values.
Background: NiMeT Workers Suspend Strike After Minister’s Involvement
According to a report by LMSINT MEDIA, NiMeT workers called off their strike action on Thursday, April 25, after beginning the protest on April 22.
The strike was a response to ongoing concerns regarding poor working conditions, non-implementation of the 2019 Consequential Adjustment to the National Minimum Wage, and other grievances. Workers are also demanding:
- A 25/35% salary increment
- 40% hardship/peculiar allowance
- Regular annual training programs
Following the Minister’s assurance of a lasting solution, NiMeT employees agreed to suspend the strike, allowing air travel operations across the country to return to normalcy.
